I have some clip on wheel weights - how can I tell if they are pure zinc or a zinc alloy. Thanks in advance.

Well, that's a different question :) Is it a typo, or is the question as asked what you wish to know?

I am not aware of any clip-on wheel weight that is "pure". To the best of my knowledge, they are all alloys of some sort. Zinc weights will contain percentages of Aluminum, Magnesium, and trace elements....

If you know the brand of weight, you can usually find their MSDS on-line, which will give you a better idea of the composition.

I concur. There is no need for purity in a WW and so the material used will be whatever is cheapest.

Mark,

I take a pair of side cutters and try to cut or dent them. If I can do that without any real force, they get melted. You will find some cut easier than others, the purer the softer.

Generally speaking, , zinc, aluminum, and steel won't cut and they get culled out.

Hope this helps,

Slim
