Had a good day yesterday shooting the 308 win Savage I put together earlier this year. I wanted to try a couple of boolits that I had laying around. One was the RCBS 200gr SIL. And the other is the LEE 200gr boolit. Both are gas checked with Hornady checks and lubed with TAC1 lube. The RCBS was also tumble lubed in ALOX. No sorting was done other than by looks. Both have been aged about 3 months.

I have a bunch of 2400 so I went with what I have the most of. Charges were the same for both boolits.

Here is the overall target.

Here is the RCBS SIL that shows some promise.

And here is the same load with the LEE 200 gr. I will explain the flier in a bit.

Ok, about the flier. I have to shoot this gun by the ''free recoil'' method. I wasn't paying attention and wrapped my hand around the stock on the pistol grip. I did it with a couple others here also. Anyway, this is the gun, but now it has a 26" 1-10tw SS Select Match Shilen on it. So far it has about 400 rnds of cast threw it and about 25 rds of jacketed. I used the jacketed ones to do a initial break in. Has only had cast since. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/tommeboy/101_0010.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/tommeboy/media/101_0010.jpg.html)

Anyone else have a picky gun like this as to the contact with the stock?

my 22-250 is super critical of not only how I hold the rifle but where I set my head on the stock.
it will throw either a stupid small or ridiculously huge group depending on how I sit at the bench and control the rifle.

You didn't say, but if those are 50yd targets they are good. If they are 100yd + they are great! Especially for random boolits lying around.

I do all of my cast testing at 100yds. I also have to be careful how much I lay my melon on the stock. One thing that helped this rifle a little was placing the carpet under the rear bag. It lets the gun slide. It was the same way with the other barrel on it also.

Run, anyone ever explain why they act like this?

I think it has something to do with harmonics, stock design, and recoil.
with my ar-30 I have to shoot it with both hands on the handle and the left hand applying rearward pressure.

I think with my 22-250 it is in the alignment with my eyes and the scope.
I have added a pad on the cheek area of the stock put more cushion under the pad, trimmed it back and forth.
it all seems to make a difference with this rifle.

other rifles seem to want you to hold the front of the stock, or not touch them with your left hand. [shrug]
