On the lee 90326 mold (358-150gr), which is/are the lube groove(s) and which is/are the crimping groove(s)

72737

In the case of other designs, how do we make this determination?

The groove nearest the nose of the boolit would be the crimp groove.

The larger, more symmetrically shaped grooves are for lube (the lower two)

Just think about how the crimp is happening...the mouth of the brass is being slightly bent into the boolit, therefore the crimp groove would be tapered, getting smaller closer to the nose

That being said, I have crimped into lube grooves. I have also 'crimped' along a driving band when a heavy crimp wasn't needed. Realize too that some boolit designs have two crimp grooves near the nose for various length loadings

Makes perfect sense, I was guessing that this was the case - but I like when there are qualified folks who back my suppositions up.

Thx
