I found there were at least two flavors or barrels on K31 rifles, maybe three. The three possibles I'm aware of are SIG, Hammerli, and Hammerli's predecessor, Hammerli and Hausch. The manufacturer's mark is on the bottom of the barrel on a small flat forward of the receiver. The various marks can be viewed here: http://www.swissrifles.com/proofs/

I'm curious because I have a SIG made barrel that is very, very tight. .294" (7.47mm bore), .306 groove. My understanding is that most K31 barrels were made by Hammerli.

Feel free to chime in with bore/groove dimensions and the manufacturer too.

Thanks for posting that link. I book marked it for future reference.

Next time I have the K31 out of the vault I'll check the barrel marking.

Thanks for your participation guys. I can't remember which site it was, but I remember seeing a website where some of the K31s were tagged as having 7.47mm bores. Whether done by the importer or the Swiss before export, I can't say. Mine, which I got from Wideners, wasn't tagged and came through Century. So I guess some of them made it through export/import without catching a tag. I'm not going to complain, going to take awhile to wear the barrel out with cast bullets.

My '51 has a SIG barrel. I can't find the barrel slugs, but remember that the groove dimension is .3075", and don't remember the bore dimension.

I slugged 12 of these when we were selling them a few years ago and none went over 307 in the grooves, IIRR 9 of them were Hammerli.

Have a young man who I am going to introduce to center fire rifle shooting this summer.
Have a K31 as issued, another with diopter sights and a third with optics on it.
Figure they will give him a good flavor for the three sighting platforms, and all with same recoil.
These are last k31s I have out of about 9-10. Probably ten as Century sent rifles in 5 packs.
One or two of mine had what was referred to as a hang tag on it and some had owners name tag under butt plate.
That's not the tag(hang tag) you are referring to is it?
Have a throat reamer with removable pilot in case one of them gets contrary with what I want to shoot in them.
Have a couple older models as well, also a small stash of RUAG brass.

The 7.47mm tags I saw were tied to the triggerguards.

Don't remember where the tag was affixed.
Think it was on upper swivel though.
Here is first reference I found on the Swiss Rifles website.

Sorry I can't help more.

My "beater", which I'm working with right now, is a Hammerli barrel, post 1946. It slugs .3105 end to end. The bore measures .2990+ at the muzzle using gage pins, but a .3000 pin drops in about 1/2" at the breech, so I reckon it's worn a little. It chambers the 311299 with nose at .301 with just a light push on the bolt handle for the last 1/8 inch. Lube & crimp the gas check with a .312 die, even though the as-cast boolits measure a bit under that.

You may be right woodwrkr, I was debating it in my head as I typed "on the triggerguard" above. But one website I sorta recall, they were tagged 7.47 bore. I notice Collectors Firearms gauges the muzzle of some that they sell, but 7.53mm appeared to be the smallest they currently have in stock, that's .2965".
