Got a Super Blackhawk I'd like to have some professional help for. Action job, forcing cone work, etc. Anyone have experience with smiths they recommend? I'm out of the loop now for 20 years so don't know who's working these days. Bonus for somebody in MS, AL, or LA area.

Call Cactus at the Boise Gun Co. He knows his stuff. Might take some time to get to your gun though. I would expect a brutal backlog for anyone worth giving your money to.

Clark's Guns in Haughton, La has done great work for me in the past.

Jim Stroh of Alpha Precision does great work. He had a 6 month waiting list a couple of years ago.

Ain't nothing cheap about his work, but I've got zero complaints about what Hamilton Bowen did to mine.
None of the good ones are cheap, but I think this is kind of a golden age of skilled pistolsmiths.

Alan Harton of Single Action Service in Houston, very reasonable prices and maybe cpl-three weeks turnaround.

Actually, I think this is the Golden Age of gun building. Although the major manufacturers sometimes leave much to be desired, the individual craftsmen making arms are far surpassing the flintlock era Golden Age.

Thanks, revolvergeek, I went with http://www.clarkcustomguns.com/ for the work. Prices seem competitive and I had some 1911 work done by Sr. back in the day. Jr. seems to be running the show now and if he's close to as good as his dad, think I'll be pleased. About 4 week turn-around and I'll let you guys know how it turns out.
