Does anyone make one? I know Lee makes a 230gr one. But I prefer a 200gr bullet for my 45 cal. If no one makes one I think I will be making one for my self.

Well I just designed my 200 gr .45 cal truncated bullet in CAD.

All I can find on there site is the 230gr TR and a 200ge RF. Maybe I am missed it?

Looks like I was mistaken. They make two SWC and a RF in 200gr. I guess I was looking at the RF to replace both my 230

Lights,

What a sweet mold! Let us know when you're ready to send your design to Swede for a group buy!
I still love my Lee 230gr TC mold, I'd like to have this one in either configuration. Great job!

Check out Accurate Molds:

http://www.accuratemolds.com/catalog.php?page=9

You tell Tom what you want and he will make it.

All you need is to lengthen his 45-165C to make it 200 grs. Probably add enough length for another lube groove or widen the existing lube groove is all.

I got him to scale that one down to .44 cal. and it is great.

Tom's 45-200V looks almost identical to what you came up with for a design. Did you contact him already?

Personally I'd go with the 45-200U as I don't prefer a bevel base boolit.

OK I found Tom's website, http://www.accuratemolds.com/catalog.php?page=9 His 45-200V and 45-200U are round nose flat points. Not Truncated points like my design. A truncated point is a cone shape with a flat on the top. Not a radius with a flat.

I sent my Lee 230TC to Erik at http://www.hollowpointmold.com/ and had him take enough off the base to make it a 200 grain boolit. Worked out great !

That thought has crossed my mind. Very easy for me to do at work. I am vary lucky because I am a plastic injection and MIM Moldmaker. Have been for the last 25 yrs.:D

I put mine in the mill and machined the bevel base off and produced a 205gr TC flat base. Shoots great in the Para GI Expert.

Tom will make whatever shape you tell him as long as there is a flat nose of 0.18". Pick a TC design and tell him waht diameter you want and what weight you want, make changes to one of his catalogue designs or design your own and he will cut it.

His service is excellent and his moulds are excellent.

I'm not sure what your overall plan is, but if conicals are what you're after, I too would tend to point you towards the HG68 clones, which have a reputation for being THE competition boolit of choice. The nose helps with feeding, the relative skinniness of it moves the center of mass backwards which helps with accuracy, the SWC shoulder makes a clean hole, gives a well-defined start/stop point to your sizer die, and gives clearance for a 1911's (if that's what you're shooting) slide stop. Seating depth is also a no-brainer - flush the shoulder with the case mouth and call it good.

I already have a clone of a HG68 mold. I want a TC mold for my 1911. It shoots Berry's 200gr FP's just fine. But I would like to cast a boolit that has a smaller flat on the nose. I send CAD files off to Tom of this design. It is just a little different than my first design of it. As designed it is just over 201 grains.

Just got news from Tom. He added this bullet design to his catalog. The # this design is 45-200C. I can not what to get one and give it a whirl.:D

What type of lead should I tell Tom I will be using for mold sizing purposes? I am just getting started in casting and do not know. COWW, Lyman #2?????? So far I only have some reclaimed range lead.

Thanks,
Mark

Wheel weight. It's a good middle of the road choice and still readily available in most parts. Range scrap will throw a little heavier and type metal a little lighter.

I just picked up some COWW at the tire store in town. I am also willing to buy lead from like Rotometals.

RCBS made one, been using it for 20 some years. I'll scan the label on the box when I get the time. IIRC it's a 201??

I had Tom spec my 45-230F for wheelweight + 2% tin and .453" for diamter. I've been casting 9-10 BHN range scrap in it and getting about 231-232 grains and dropping around .4535". Wait til you cast with it. The boy does DAMN fine work!

Here's the RCBS mold, Keith type 201 grn., shoots really well out of any 1911 type with 6.o grns. Unique. PM me if anyone wants a few to try, we can do a swap.

I put the order in today with Tom for a 5 cavity 45-200C mold. I can not wait for it to arrive. This is like waiting for Christmas when I was younger.

Unboxing a new custom mold is a wonderful thing. I don't own any of Tom's molds, but I've used a few and love them. I'm starting to want a nice .44 mold, maybe I can get a nice Keith style from Tom one of these days.

Magma makes a great 200gr TC. Only a 2cav & it is a flat base, they just cut the bevel off their 230grTC. The bullet casts 205gr from range scrap & clip ww, 50/50 mix.

Your range lead will do nicely, especially if you add 1-2% Sn for mold fill-out. 45's don't need hard alloy...
