been on lee molds for year and half now, bought my first lyman 2 hole 45acp/45colt. DROP IS A REALLY COOL THING DOWN IN THE WATER. Yippee, kinda scared me at first, never had boolits jump out of the mold.

All my other lees are worn out and gone. I do have a new (just came today) lee 6 hole 9mm 125gr that is doing pretty good. First day for it.

Gonna buy a NOE and shop for one RCBS.

This is one i bought hair below retail on ebay:

The lee two cavs can be a pain but after lee menting them they work well. The other molds all work well as long as they are taken care of.
The lee 6 cavs were really good for me right out of the box with no trouble and no fixing.
Good luck, enjoy and be safe always.

The Lee "new style" molds seem to work better for me than the older "rattle trap" Lee design. The new style drops bullets readily. I have several of them and am very pleased. I have read (so take it as rumor) that Lee is cutting the cavities in a different fashion on the new molds than they did the older ones. I have only used the Lee 2 cavity molds.

Well if you wore out all of your lee moulds in a year and a half, you must cast a lot. I have lee moulds that are a least 30 years old and they work as good as the day my dad bought them, probably better. You might want to review your technique because even expensive moulds can be ruined by aggressive use.

When I cast my first boolits with a steel Lyman, I had much the same epiphany as you. :). They are very nice.

Yea, my tech has improved, but still done with lee aluminum, (for example)NOE aluminum is durable and drops. I have talked to Al on the phone. Lee dont want to make improvements , on the sproo plate, should be steel. And the sproo handle and cam should be as thick as plate. After use,, the steel bolts are hard on the threads of this kind of aluminum (steel cooks the threads) that lee uses. The lee aluminum does not drop good as 2024. Steel and steel are good, brass and 2024 aluminum is good. 2024 aluminum and steel will work. Brass and steel bolts,etc.. In aviation the aluminum engine case needs brass fittings screwed into the threads. I'd like to see NOE aluminum with big fat brass thick bolts and steel sproo plate. This steel lyman is incredible. Lead sticks easier to inside of lee molds, just a couple specks messes pour
up. Its a heat transfer world and when u have threads you gotta have correct components as in aviation.

I am not a big fan of Lee molds either, but I own several and they have their place. All of mine were purchased new on line for less than $20 a pop so I really can't complain. After casting a few hundred boolits with them they have paid for themselves. I also have several Lyman/Ideal molds and they are a joy to use but can be a bit pricy, especially for the discontinued molds.

RCBS and Saeco molds are really consistant and well build for a production mold, you'll be happy when you get them.
But don't compare them to the custom work of NOE or MP or or AM or HM˛

I started out with Lee moulds and when I got my first steel mould it was a world of difference. I use the Lee buckshot and slug moulds but RCBS and Lyman get my coin now. Noe and MP moulds are cream of the crop and are the best moulds I have used in my short casting period.

You're going to like that 452488, and there's no such thing as "retail rate" on a discontinued mold!!!! BTW, in an ACP, you're going to be @ 1.135 OAL with that one......

I picked up a 4 cavity 452488 with handles at a gun show recently for $15. It had a little surface rust but cleaned up nicely. The lady I bought it from said she just wanted it out of her house. I was very happy to help her out. It casts some very nice bullets. I think you will enjoy yours very much.
