Went to my local Goodwill store looking for pewter (as I normally do). Plenty of silver-plate platters, crappy SS etc... but something caught my eye... it was awefully shiny like the standard silver-plated items but something looked a bit different. Closer inspection revealed it was a small sterling silver shot-glass type of thing... a cursory glance in the general area revealed another one... both marked $.49

Needless to say they came home with me... 1.375 oz of sterling for $.98+tax isn't bad...

cast it into bullets to kill werewolfs

This ^^^ Most definitely this... cast it into silver bullets to kill Werewolves...

Or you can sell it for $20+/oz... sterling is at least 92.5% silver... silver is a precious metal that is relatively valuable...

He is right! Save it for a rainy day or,

It was up to $45 per ounce a year or two ago and is likely to go up in the future. It has come down some just recently.

I sold a box full of old silverware for my wife a year ago. It weighed about 16 pounds. I carried it into the shop and I came out with $5,800 dollars. WOW!

I like Silver even more than Lead!

Thrift stores have so much "stuff" thru them, they cannot read the bottom of every piece of metalware they get.

Recently I bought a plate they thought was pewter that weighted 28oz. troy. I knew it was solid silver by the hallmark on the bottom. Paid $2.50 for a piece of solid silver. At $27.00/oz at that time, not a bad find find!

A couple years ago I found a goblet used in religious services that looked liked plated pewter. it was 14c gold filled sterling sliver. For a buck, it yielded over 16 troy silver. There is at least a 1/4oz gold on the thing.

Watch for it......it IS out there!

Where y'all getting these cheap GoodWill stores? These jerks around here overprice everything. I found an old square cake pan with rust all over the outside - they had it marked $3.99! I asked 'em what they would take for it since I just wanted it for pan lube. The manager said witha haughty air, "GoodWill doesn't negotiate prices." I told him they should be ashamed get that stuff for free and then rip off poor folks by overpricing. Bah!
