Just wanted to know if anyone owns this gun and has any special loads for it.

Yes, I like hyper-velocity loads using pistol bullets. It also likes breech seating 300 grain cast.
Get yourself the Pet loads book by Ken Waters. It has good data.

What alloy are you using on the 300 grainers? Plain base,or GC?

I keep it simple, wheel wieghts with a little tin. My mold is a plain based RCBS 300 Gr.. Slug your bore, mine is .414. I wonder if Ruger used the same barrels for .416's.

That would explain why I have only been able to get the jacketed bullets to shoot in it.
I will slug it,but all my moulds throw about a .412 bullet.

I slugged the bore and it is exactly .412 thank goodness. I have only tried some cast bullets I bought and they were too soft for the velocity I wanted . I have a custom Hoch GC 300 grain mould I cast with lino that I will try next...49 grs of Rel 7 shoots best in my modern 95's

Take a look at a RCBS 416-350 - it's a FN GC mould that drops bullets around 417. It also has the crimp groove in the right location for the 405. While its designed for 416 calibres, quite a few on here use that bullet in their 405's. I size down to .414 and it works very well.

My 405 win, slugs at .412.

Mine also. I've just now started playing with some PP loads for mine but it's looking good so far.

Can't help with the #1 but I do have a new mod 1885. I had Tom @ accurate molds make up a nose rider Boolit design that suits well to single shots. #41-330C. My bore also slugs .412. WW Boolits drop @ .415 I snap on a Gator GC and size .413. WW alloy Checked and lubed with Lars BAC Boolits weigh in at 335 gr. I seat just touching the lands in the 1885 with a COAL of 3.005. Last week I tossed together a couple of test loads and headed out the door with 30.5 gr of 5744 and 44 gr Of AA 2230. Both loads shot well with the nod going to the slightly slower 5744 load. I did not chronograph but est. I was driving the 5744 load aprox. 1700 fps and the 2230 load about 1800. No pressure sighs in my gun. Much more testing required. Over the weekend I also loaded with 4198 and 2400 powders but the rain kept me from testing. Big Medicine loads with a cresent Butt are a little rough from the bench. Throttling back a bit and hunting for accuracy. Looks like it will be easy to turn up the wick if needed.
