I have been battling with wrinkled bulletts on occasion and finally added i% tin and wrinkles are gone ! I resisted because of the cost of tin,but was able to score 50 lbs pewter for 35.00 last sat at a flea market. Smelted it to i lb ignots and mixed up a batch with 50/50 and 1% tin.. what a difference!! Wrinkles gone, definition of bulletts sharper, and just perfect looking bullets!
I am now a believer, but now i will be visiting flea markets more often..

Welcome to our site. Lot of good information here.
Be careful though, every now and someone will spread
a little bull**** around, so be extra watchful, that you don't step in it.

Sell a couple of lbs. of that 50 and you won't have had any net cost.

Jimbo, how did you know it was pewter? Just asking out of ignorance. I've seen pewter things on eBay but if I saw it in a garage sale I'd think it was mystery metal.

El34, do a search for pewter and you will find extensive reading on this site about how to identify it.

I got a few kgs of pewter from my local scrap metal recycler. Never mind the price (about the same as for lead), I got a good supply of the stuff and spread into each boolit it costs next to nothing.

I really like the Pewter thing. I melt mine into 1/2 pound (Lee) ingots and use away. With the percentage of tin being what it is, in Pewter, I just call it tin. Mike

welcome to the forum, Jimbo. Nice first post!

Yeah, some of us fought a little longer than you before finally giving in, but I realized the value of tin to boolit "fill out" a couple decades ago, thankfully enough.

BTW, listen and pay attention to what the guy who posted right below you states. It's important, amongst many other good men on this forum. All who are happy to help.

The addition of some tin definitely has value. Depending on how much tin is in my alloy to begin with, 1% added tin seems to be the magic number for me when more is needed.
