View Full Version : recommend a good (inexpensive) 50 cal debur/chamfer tool? Must be lathe mountable.

Hi guys,

I use the LEE case debur tool. I thought it was pretty terrible till I replaced it with this:

For brass, this one is far worse. I guess the cutters are at an angle for steel or copper, not brass.

So now, it's back to the LEE, I guess it is not so bad. But it is WAY too small. I REALLY wish they made it about twice the diameter it is. It badely works for 338 lapua or 45 cal anything. 50 is a no-go.

I see the rcbs type tool, but the debur side has me nervous. I see those three fins and wonder if it will chatter like the pipe debur tool does.

Any recommendations?

I chuck whatever I get into the lathe chuck and debur/chamfer hundreds of cases in 5-10 minutes (both operations) so lathe mountable is a must.

Thanks!

I've run the small RCBS chamfer tool in my milling machine when batch processing 5.56 cases and it was very smooth under power.

Would a countersink tool work? http://dewitt-tool.com/csinks_weldon82d.aspx

No personal experience, but Sinclair normally doesn't handle junk; Wilson .50 Deburr Tool (http://www.sinclairintl.com/reloading-equipment/case-preparation/case-mouth-chamfering/case-mouth-deburring-tools-prod34013.aspx)

Just use a countersink for the inside and get yourself a scotchbrite wheel for your bench grinder and use that for the outside.

You can chuck up the CS in your lathe and spin it that way or run it in a drill press and control the depth of cut with the quill stop.

50 BMG's are big enough cases that you can get a good hold on them with your hand.

Then over to the deburring wheel for a quick twist, and you're done.

I don't run the quill up and down when I deburr. I raise the case into the deburring tool by hand. It's very easy to tell when the case mouth is smooth if you're holding it.
