Hello, Ive been toying around with trying to get these .313 100gr bullets to shoot with some accuracy. so far its mostly been a failure, the bullets are stabilizing fine with nice clean holes.
Right now the best ive been able to come up with is 5grn of bullseye and the best that has done is about 2.5 inches at 40 yards. If i increase the load they get worse.
slugged the barrel is .299 - .311.

Have any of you guys experimented with a bullet weight like this? BTW these are cast bullets.

Plain-base bullets perform best under 1600fps. I prefer to keep those same size boolits at around 1400fps for better accuracy in my 7.62x54R gallery loads.

I just tried unique powder instead with several different amounts and it cant stay on paper past 25 yards so thats a no go. At this point I am not sure if its the type of powder or possibly the oal.
I have tried tilting the gun upwards before every shot. It hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

I never realized this cartridge could go so low of a boolit weight

25 yards is just fine for a Gallery Load.

I've used 85gr and 100gr .312 hollowpoint pistol bullets as well (Hornady) with the small-game loads as detailed in the link. 50 yards and they destroy rabbits.

i shoot the SAECO #325 SWC with the same load range(4.5-5.0) of Bullseye or Red Dot and it shoots pretty good.I cant say its ever shot MOA but about 1" for each 25 yards with irons. This is with 91's, 91-30's,Finn 39's and Finn 28's.I have never had good luck with Chinese model 53's or any Model 44's.

What's the boolit lube you're using and have you removed the copper fouling from previous fmj shooting?

These two targets were fired at 100 feet. The load was Lee 311-93-1R over 4.6 (.7 cc Lee scoop) of Red dot in a Lapua case with a cci 200 primer. They were loaded as cast they drop from the mould at .313 lubed with LLA. The rifle was a 91/30 with a barrel slugging at .3115. Lotta fun to shoot.

Drop the load to 3.2 gr Bullseye. You're pushing that 100 gr bullet too fast.

Interesting. I have the Lee 93 gr that drops about 312-313 also the 312-160 that drops around 314. Both would make a good boolit I hear now?

Ok I tried what you said larry, at least now im on the paper er cardboard that is.
Here's a pic.
Still needs work The oal of the round is 2.53, from everything ive read here the depth seems to be right. I am using the same projectile as mac.

I Have tried so many combinations today that I've ran out of targets. The barrel slugged .311 my bullets dropped at .313, I did not size them.

I agree 3.5 is a pretty good load for a light bullet gallery load. i just dug up my data from my 2010 7.62 x 54 plinking experiments. and the 311226 RN with 4.5g BE is going only 1180 fps.The 3118 with the same charge went 1112 fps fps. Both SD's were in the low teens.I bumped up to 6.5g and groups went wild and the velocity was 1325 fps.The same 6.5g load drives a 190g plainbase to just over 1050 and accuracy is superb.

is your bore good? Does it shoot heavier cast bullets of similar size well?

I havn't tried other cast bullets yet, this is the only mold in this size I have right now. Tomorrow I am going to try it in one of my other mosins. But I will say the one I used today is my best shooting with FMJ rounds. I will post results.

Lee .311 9gr they drop at 100gyou .313. Ive been using wheel weight alloy with LLA lube
Khmer I live out in the country so i have a berm in the backyard i use.

Make sure you get a heavy enough coating on them. I lightly lube them for sizing and then a heavier coating before loading them up.

Changing rifles did not help, I will try a heavier coat of lube.

Most every thing sounds ok (hey for thos who thought I suggest adding tin? Straight WW or range lead will do fine with these loads if it casts good bullets.) but I suggest dropping down to 2.4 gr Bullseye and work back up in .2 gr increments to 3.2 gr. Are you using fire formed NS'd cases?

Hey Jim:
Welcome to the CastBoolits.
I believe the biggest problem with the M/N's, is the throat size. My M44 will accept a .318 boolit, and close into battery. So, if one is shooting a .313 boolit, there is .006 oversize for that short boolit to get crossways before it gets to the lands. I tried the 31950 boolit with no good accuracy. I sold the mold and went on to pp'ing heavier boolits to fit the throat. Been jumping from one thing to another. So many things to try in so many firearms, and not enough time.
Regards
Jack

Well, with no luck yet I have gone to a 150 grain pointed gas checked projectile and that seems to have solved the problem. They always hit the target and seem to hit where I aim. I have not shot from a rested location yet so they shoot to my abilities. Thanks for the welcome. I had started with the smaller projectile to use less lead.

I do gallery loads in 8x57 using 95Gr old lyman mold.
I found that softer lead (stick ons) alloy shrinks grups,so does using large pistol primer.
I settled on 5 Gr of Promo and rifle has to be tipped up (powder position) just before shot to avoid smoke soot on cases.
