Mold for a BOLT ACTION .30-30?

I picked up a member of the Stevens 325 / Savage 340 / Springfield 840 family a couple years ago to use as a boolit pusher. Been making do with spitzers for the other .308's in the stable, but want to get a dedicated mold.

The .30-30, being what it is, I have no interest in a high B.C. This gun is about maximum thump inside of 150 yards - probably inside of 100, realistically.

I like the big meplat of the Accurate 31-170C, but have some concerns about this profile feeding off my 840's detachable magazine.

Anybody been down this road before?

I've been using the Lee 170 fp lubed & g/c'ed with 748 in my 325b Stevens. Load is from Lyman manual. Feeds fine in mine.

I have a Springfield/Stevens 325, which is the cheap-stock version of your 840. It is has a short throat and a tight neck, which has limited my boolit choices. It shoots a 311-466 ok, but only when sized to .310. Any larger, and the case neck rubs in the neck. My favorite RCBS 30-180 FN doesn't work at all in the Springfield. I was able to use the 311-041, but not the 311-291, owing to the fact that the latter boolit was jamming in the rifling.

Did your RCBS 30-180 have trouble making it out of the magazine and into the chamber, or making it into the rifling?

My main concern is how much meplat can I have and still feed reliably.

I have the 31-170E and it feeds with no problem at all in my wifes Rem 788. It also is a tack driver in both the rem and my 03 06.

The mp ness boolit would be sweet in a 30-30. I have the mold & have been kicking around buying a contender bbl for that bullet.

The mold casts 130gr hp (huge hp) or 170gr sp (huge meplat) along with a long bore riding nose. These boolits are real thumpers!!!

I use the 311041 in all of my 30 cal. rifles. It was designed for the 30-30 and feeds with no issues in my bolt guns and the lever actions. Also shoots great in my Contender.
