I watched a youtube video where a guy loads a 50bmg into a 12ga and fires it. Not that i am going to do that, but the brass did come out nice and fireformed and looks like it would make a strong piece of 12ga.

I am wondering if such a thing can be safely done.

Maybe cut the shoulder off a 50bmg case, and use...what load? to fireform it?

Just wondering.

Of course, I know one can lathe it, but I dont have a lathe. I know RMC makes long 12ga brass. but I still want to know about the crazy idea of fireforming a 50 case.

Any thoughts?

That is how we made first 12ga from hell cases- It is in the first
pages of thread. We used full length, turned off old rim.
threaded the stub and screwed on
a 12ga rim piece we made.

Fireformed some, some split, so I just annealed
and used expander plugs on rest.
Lot faster and made a case 3.85" long. Ed

Yeah, and i was also inspired by your postings on the subject. But i cant lathe or turn or thread the brass. I could probably stick it in a drill and hold a file to turn the base down in makeshift fashion, though.

What load did you use to fireform it?

Ill work on what to do abt the rim later...

Thx,

We fireformed trying 100gr of blue dot, with rest filled with grex
or some filler and a wax or playdough plug in top.
and only way to minimize splits was to anneal top of cases first.
And we used unfired brass as that helped eliminate splits.

We fire fireformed in our chambers set up for our final case.
12ga \chambers at the base are little large for bmg case and
we made chambers little tighter at base like rifle specs.
You have to make sure it is good headspace so that primer gets
a solid hit. That is what rim does.Ed
