Larry,you out there?

My VZ24 slugs at .328,is this normal? I have read some are .326-.327,seems quite large.Anyone! Just that Larry seems to know milsurps.

I don't know what it is about me,that I get an hankering to tinker with something when supplies are low,oh well, makes it a challenge.

Unless that is a pretty worn barrel that does seem a bit large. Some war time productions apparently run on the larger side but vz24s generally were well made. Of the numerous ones I've slugged they ran .323 - .325. You might run 3 - 5 slugs through it to weed out any anomolies you might have induced which happens to us all.

Taylor,
.
I had VZ-24 in the last millennium that slugged at .328". It had seen better days. The crest was scrubbed, and all the bluing was gone. Moreover, the first 2" of rifling at the muzzle was reamed out. At that time my boolits were .325" so it wasn't terribly accurate to say the least. It was a plinker. So that's the worn side of things.

I hope this helps,

Actually it's in fine shape, good bore, better than the Spanish Mauser I posted in a different thread.

Taylor,

The Lee C329-205-1R just might be the ticket then.

Safe casting & shooting,

Taylor,

I have a high opinion of the Czech Mausers. They seem to be made of high quality and precision. If yours is in good shape, then you'll have a rifle that you can be proud of for many years to come. If you shoot only lead through the barrel, it should last multiple lifetimes and then some. Any photos?
.
Enjoy,

My brother gave me a VZ24 he'd bought a couple years previously (and this was a few yeas ago, so maybe 2002?) and the bore was toast. Bought it from Big 5. In any event the barrel was worthless as it was. I bought a Military contoured barrel chanmbered .308" from Brownells and had it screwed on. This is how it looked then, and how it looks now. New barrel shoots like a champ:

Overall it was a fine rifle. The stock had some ding's 'n' bents but was overall sound. Just the luck of the pick I guess. Then several years later I happened to wander into the local Big 5 and there was this VZ24/47:

The barrel was immaculate internally. I didn't even bother to slug it. I just loaded up some Lee 8mm slugs (.325") over a few generic loads, which it proceeded to scattered all over the place. Later at home I slugged it. It had a .327" groove and a .329" throat. Goodness gracious!!! Thank heavens for the Lee C329 - 205 mould. I knew if I bought that mould I'd eventually find a use for it! Shoots cast lead like a champ with the correct slug!
