Small canon and pyrodex

I built a small 5/8" bore canon a few years ago for salutes, not projectiles. Works great with FFG and canon fuse and some wads. Nice loud bang with 60 grains. Can't get the dang thing to fire with pyrodex RS......just puts out sparks, no BANG. It seems as tho' I can't get it compacted enough?
FFG is hard to find.......

Try a few grains off ff first with pyro on top of that. The fuse probably just isn't hot enough like pyro doesn't work well in a flintlock.

Pyrodex doesn't work well in my 4 bore swivel gun either.
That is with blanks, ball loads, or "langrage", give more pressure for the Pyrodex to burn.

My Zouave doesn't like it either.......has a very obvious hang fire.

Ditch the pyrodex, get Holy Black, problem solved.

I actually have no problems with RS in my beer can mortar and firework fuse, with either a full can or even an empty can it gives a pretty good pop with and I wouldn't think that would be too much compression from just an empty can.

If I could find Holy Black, or black powder, I wouldn't use P...dex either.
