View Full Version : Military Rifles I Have

I have a few....12 Mosin Nagants, including a Remington and two New England Westinghouses, 4 Mausers, a K98 and three Yugos, 3 Swiss, a K31 and two 96/11 conversions, 2 M1 Garands, a Springfield Armory and and an H&R, 2 Lee Enfields, a No.4 Mk.1 and a No.5 Jungle Carbine,3 Steyr M95's, an Austrian, a Hungarian, and a Bulgarian contract, and a Japanese Type 99 Arisawka. For pistols I have a CZ52, a CZ82, a M85 Nagant, and a Romanian TT-33 Makarov. Also have a Winchester 95 lever action chambered in 7.62X54R. A design made for Russians during WW I, but I don't think this one ever made it to Russia....no Russian proof marks on the barrel and was it was not modified to accept charger clips. By the serial number it was manufactured in 1916, probably after Russia defaulted on their payments because of their Red Revolution.

I have a few but not a collection like that! Mauser K98k 1944, Turkish 1938 mauser, Swedish 96 1900, SKS from China, Lee Enfield no1 mk III 1916.

My milsurps have been through some war, except the SKS and the Swede. I often hold my Enfield and wonder who else looked down those sights and what they saw on the other end in 1916,17,18 in France. If only we could know exactly what these arms have been through.........

Might this have been a rifle in another caliber re-barreled using a surplus 7.62X54r barrel left over from the Russian contract?
The 7.62X54r sounds like a great combination with the model 1895 action. Is there any sign of lug setback? Some milsurp Russian ammo may be too hot for the 95 action, as the .30 M1 Ball proved to be.

If I had a Winchester model 1895 in .303 or .30-40 it would be the pride of my collection.

That 1895 is high on the cool factor. I have a picture somewhere, can't remember where I found it, but it shows Russian troops in the trenches wearing gas masks and carrying 95's. I don't know if it was a staged photo or not but it is neat!

I remember when I was working at a gun shop back in the early 70's, we took a '95 Winchester in on trade in 7.62x54R. That thing stayed on display forever. A few people looked at it, but put it back when they saw the caliber.

If I only knew then, what I know now (not that I know a lot now), I would have snatched it up!

Scored a 95 in 54R and an AG-42 on a TDY years ago out west, traveled with FFL's in pocket - one never knows. Russian marked with small block repaired top wood, little frosty in the pipe. Still I giggled when I slid it into the Russian collection and the 42 rounded out the Swede pile. Warmed it up several times over the years, not bad at 100 years or yards. Gtek

I only own a Lee Enfield No.5 June, 1945 so it dates for WW2 barely. It is in great shape with all matching sn. and once D&T for a scope making it very affordable. My wish list includes an original N0.4 Long Branch and a Pacific Ranger Winchester 94 in 30-30 some day. A bonafide Canadian military WW2 lever, now that is cool!

There isn't much that we can't say "If I only knew then...". Racks and Racks of Rolling Blocks imported around 1960 to 62 or so - dirt cheap even by the income standards of the day, US double Eagles $125.00, Lahti 20mm and Boyes .55 caliber AT rifles by mail order, US DCM surplus M1 Carbines $27.xx delivered by REA. I could go on, but I'm just depressing myself.

My dad ordered me one of those Carbines back in the early 60s. I worked all summer mowing lawns for the $20 to pay for it.

You just got 'a be an old 82nd Airborne trooper with that user name.

As you guys can see, I'm pretty well stuck on Springfields. Even the Rolling Block is a Sprinfield Model 1870 Navy Rifle in 50/70.

I have 1 Enfield, 1 Krag (cut down unfortunately), 1 M-1 Carbine and an whole bunch of Russian Mosins (and 2 Berdans.) Also some Russian contract guns.

I thought I would post a photo showing a Russian M1895 Winchester made in 1916, shipped to Russia for WWI and then sold to Spain by Stalin for the Spanish Civil War. It has Russian markings, Spanish markings, and on the receiver, a stripper clip holder for the 7.62x54R rounds, the same that are used in the Mosin.

72706

Shown are a 1916 Tula Mosin, the Winchester, a 1916 Russian contract Colt, and a 1916 Tula Nagant revolver.

We also had a guy bring his fathers ww2 bring back Luger it was the most elaborate one I have ever seen a black widow with a naval length barrel with golden yellow tassels hanging down with the waffen eagle over the swastika over it in silver on both sides of the grips it was amazingly hand engraved. It had to have been a cerimonal Luger. And no I didn't even make an offer I told him to keep it in the family but I did get his dads other bring back p38 with capture papers

My dad and I are pretty big into the mil surps as well, my latest acquisition turned out to be a pretty good find. It's an Arisaka type 99 long rifle made at the Nagoya arsenal. There were about 30,000 long rifles made during the first year of world war II before they realized they could shorten the rifle up without loosing any accuracy. Here's what makes this one a little harder to find, of the 30,000 long rifles, the Nagoya arsenal only made about 8,000 of them! This one as you can see is serial number 79xx not too far from the end of production. I didn't show it in the pictures but everything on the rifle matches, this includes the parts of the bolt. I would say it's a pretty nice gun for the $225 I paid!

I have a number of milsurps. Collected and been shooting them for over 25 years. Little bit of a twist on this thread. Have a cpl I am going to part with. Would really like them to go to someone who would appreciate them - and NOT chop them up!!!

One is a Finn capture 91/30 MN. Other is a nearly perfect Argentine 1909 Cavalry Carbine, dom 1910. If you are interested, pls pm me. I can provide pics, etc. I will NOT respond about them in this thread.

I also have a partial box of 7x57 ammo and brass - no longer have the rifle. If anyone needs it, pm me and we can work out details. Thanx

I would suggest browsing here (http://www.simpsonltd.com/index.php?cPath=350_351_379), this is where I bought it from. That way you can match the condition of yours to a price.

Nope Winchester had a contract with Russia for these for WW I before the Red Revolution. After the revolution Russia defaulted on the payments so Winchester had quite a few stockpiled. Mine was made in 1916 and it is the factory chambering.

Lets see, over last few years have sold some of my military rifles, but still have a few military: 1879 Argentine 43 Spanish Rolling Block, model 1910/12? 7x57 rolling block, 1903 Springfield & 1903A03 smith-corona, 98 Persian 8mm long rifle, M38 Husqvarna 6.5x55 Swede, M1936 Mexican 7x57, Danish Madsen M58 30-06, Israeli K98 (izzy) .308. A list of my sporterized military rifles would be longer.

M1 Garand (Winchester)
M1903A3 (Smith Corona)
M1 Carbine (Inland)
M1917 (Eddystone)
98K
No. 4 Mk 1
Chinese SKS (Pretty poor shape but got it for $50 many years ago. It shoots)
Mosin 91/30
K-11 Schmidt Rubin
AR-15 and AK (If semi auto civilian rifles count)

Would dearly LOVE to acquire a non-sporterized Krag, but would probably have to do some serious sweet talking to the wife to pull that one off.

My last count, I am up to 42 C&R guns. I have owned others, but sold some to acquire rarer models.

My C&R license, which I have renewed once has cost me $60 so far. I have saved well over 1000 bucks in transfer fee. $60 well spent!

I have probably 20 different ones right now. I lost track. I did just buy my first surplus hand gun. A luger!

That 1895 is high on the cool factor. I have a picture somewhere, can't remember where I found it, but it shows Russian troops in the trenches wearing gas masks and carrying 95's. I don't know if it was a staged photo or not but it is neat!

Well, I found this picture. :D
