I have a travel trailer that is on a permanent site in the woods right near a lake. It has a 12x30 covered porch on it and I want to screen in the porch. Is it better to use nylon or aluminum screen? There are bunches of birds and woodpeckers all over the place. We've had a wet Spring and there is quite the crop of mosquitoes around. This is in old strip mine country.

I work with windows and doors every day.

In your case, I would go with the aluminum due to the birds.

It is harder to work with than the fiberglass, but more durable.

Be prepared to shovel out the snow in the wintertime.

I still put plastic over a couple windows in the winter. Works for screen, too.

Thanks guys. Aluminum it is. I put a tarp around the perimeter of the porch for the winter. That way I can keep the furniture out there and have a half way good place to store stuff.

I got some pet resistant screen at Menards. It is plastic and much heavier than the nylon and it is harder to cut than aluminum. 36X84 was $15, so it is quite a bit more expensive but I think it may be quite durable. If you get to some of the old hardware stores around the country you might be able to find some old galvanized screen. That is some tough stuff, you can paint it black to make it disappear.

If it's plastic or other such materials,, mice, squirrels & other critters can & will chew through it. Go with the aluminum.

Ha, squirrels 'round here eat through hardware cloth in a few hours. Aluminum screen hardly slows 'em down.

Poultry netting will stop most of our mosquitos ...
