Hello to all.
I was wondering if there is anything "NEW" in glove technology for casting safety that is not as "combersome" as welders gloves at reasonable prices?

I usually just use a good quality pair of leather work gloves. They allow me to still handle things without being clumsy, but protect my hands from being burned by splatter or touching things I shouldn't. I very seldom use a pair of welding gloves for anything including welding. If it is too hot to be picked up with a regular pair of leather gloves you probably shouldn't be picking it up. If you ever do get a hold of something with pair of welders gloves by the time you realize it is too hot you can't get them off fast enough.

There are welders gloves and than there are welders gloves. The cheap, unlined, are no better than regular leather work gloves except for the long cuff.
The ones I wear to smelt and cast are insulated and lined. The leather is soft and supple. They cost about twice as much, but really aren't a problem to work with. I think I got them at Northern Tool.

Get a set of Tillman Tig Welding Gloves. I use them for casting bullets, aluminum and for all my welding.

That's what I use, I only use one tho on my right hand to drop the spruce lead and to move the plate, I hold the handles in my left hand with no glove, may sound crazy but my left hand gets sore holding the mould closed with gloves on.

I use the fairly cheap leather palmed work gloves with canvas back, I like the ventilation cuz my hands sweat easily...finding a cheap pair that fit nice is the biggest challenge.

PS, and Yeah, I only wear the right hand glove as well

I use the same type of glove that i use to pick up hay with, deerskin.
Has a lot of feel in them they work well for tig as well.
They let you know when things get heavy, kinda like an early warning system.

I wear these for casting http://m.samsclub.com/ip/plainsman-leather-gloves-2-pair/113105
Actually I wear them for everything except dinner. I've bought several pairs. They are excellent I can pickup a dime on a concrete floor while wearing them. Get a few pair they make good shooting gloves too.

One more for the Ove-Gloves. When the mold is up to temp, I cut the sprue with my gloved hand.

Nomex flyer's gloves. Thin enough you can feel what you're doing, but still keep you from burning yourself.

I use canvas gauntlet gloves for casting and smelting. They were complements of my employer when I worked as a pipefitter. The more you use them, the more supple they become. They are thick enough, so as to wipe off errant splatters and sprue smears.

Ovgloves on the right hand. Leather driver glove on left when I'm dipping. Just ovglove when using bottom pour.

Another vote for deer skin gloves when casting, welders gloves when smelting.
