Found a few old posts that showed some success loading up Alliant 410 in the 44 mag. Decided to try out some 16.5gr and 17.0gr loads today. Started out with the 16gr loads and on my first cylinder full I actually had a couple hangfires! They only lasted a split second though but it was enough to freak me out so I only shot 6 rounds of that load. Tried the 17gr loads next and all 25 rounds shot just fine! I swear I even spotted a fireball or two, but they were still nowhere near the thumpers of my Blue Dot loads!

I think I would have had to stop after the first hangfire. What primer were you lighting them off with? What distance are those targets?

I used CCI No. 300 standard primers. I haven't found any of my regular go-to powders anywhere (Blue Dot, 2400, Unique) but Alliant 410 seems to always be available and I recall reading somewhere that it was similar enough to 2400. Interestingly though one chart (http://www.reloadbench.com/burn.html) seems to indicate its a slower powder than even H4227! I was hoping it would be a good alternative powder to use in case nothing else becomes available.

Those targets were shot at 7 yds.

I used 410 in 454 Casull and Ruger 45 Colt loads. I loaded it near the upper end of 2400 load info and it performed very closely to 2400.

zombie480 and RobS,

Have you folks experimented more with Alliant 410 since last year?

Thanks
