I just got a star luber and was wondering if you change the size of the drop tube do you need to change the slide as well . I want to go from a .356 to a .452 . Also can you make up your own drop tubes and what do you make them from? If change is needed what is a good source to find what I need. Any help will be great and god bless all Dave

Yes, you will need a drop tube and slide for large caliber. Call Magma. they are only ~ $30 and they were in stock last week.

Yes, you must change the slide,(or have someone make it for you.) I can supply you the tubes for the 9mm, but all my .45 tubes are gone. Plastic supply house probably sells it. PM if interested. Star reloaders web site might help you..bigmac

There are 4 different size slides that I know of.
And at least 3 different tubes.

You have a tube and slide for short boolits (like 110 wc 38s)
a tube and slide for regular 38's, 9mm
a tube and slide for above 40 to 45

I am not sure what the 4th one is but my slides are marked 1,2, and 4

Does anybody know what the 4th is? I have been attempting to figure out what I need for the feeder. It would be really nice if it was documented.

I am looking for the star feeder to work with the following:
147grain 9mm
87grain 9mm http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?179098-MiHec-2-or-4-cavity-brass-358640-380-ACP-9mm-Luger-amp-Makarov-Cramer-HPGC-or-PB
173 grain 30-30's
405 grain 45-70
45ACPhttp://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?155635-MiHec-452374-brass-four-cavity-solid-or-hollow-point

Thanks

I am not sure if the rifle boolits will feed in the feeder.

For the most part you just need two slides.

I recentlty purchased a bullet feeder from Magma. They said that the large size, (small or large) would work with most all sizes. I am feeding 45.40.38,9mm with the one setup. Works fine. I will make a new bar for my 32 cal bullets and may get some small sized plastic tubes. Save some money, get the large.

You can spend $30 for a tube and slide or you can cut a piece of plastic to insert inside your existing slide. Enclosed is a picture of a piece of plastic that measured .440 od before I added some painting tape to increase the diameter. The piece is .400 long. I use this in my 45 caliber slide in my feeder to allow me to size .357/38/9mm from the larger drop tube and slide. I kept the $30 in my pocket.8100981010

if there was a way to "like" a post I would like the one above for sure.

You can also take that same tube and use it as an insert inside your larger diameter tube. You will use the blue painters tape on the outside of the tube so that is your positive depth stop.

This way there is no slop in the bullet feeder tube or in the slide. The 38's, 357,s and 9mm go thru really smooth with no mishaps

One last thing... nothing against Magma by any means just my way of maximizing what I have in front of me. If I can save a few dollars here or there is just means I have money for something else.

One more last thing.... For those wondering about the plastic tubes ....they are from a Lee Bullet loader that I tried with my Mr. Bullet Feeder Bullet dropper. Too much weight so I abandoned the idea and used the tubes with the Star/Magma instead.

Hope it helps

I buy those tubes from zorotools.com, along with my tumbling media. The tubing comes in handy for all kinds of projects involving bullets.

Hope this helps.

My number 3 was sent out as a 45 caliber (45acp) measures .472

If they marked them the same as the drop tubes then #1=9mm 38cal, #2=40cal/10mm/41/38-40cal,#3=44/45/45-70

Does anybody have any suggestion on how to make the bullet drop a bit more reliable. Every 10th to 20th bullet seems to get hung up on the slide even more after I have put a pre-lubed boolit though. I have cleaned the slide and it only makes it go back to every 10th to 20th.

Thanks in advance -kayak1

I assume it get hung up over the die? I've had that happen with slightly oversized bullets. You can slightly ream the feeder slide and re-countersink it and that will take care of the problem. If its getting hung up under the bullet drop tube there is a stop return adjustment you may want to check.

The slides need to have a larger hole in the slider tube in order to function 100% all the time. My 45 cal slide was that way until I reamed and polished it. It not functions correctly and will even feed oversized bullets without a problem.

The idea of the return of a lubes bullet is for die lubrication and not for lubrication of the slide.

Raise the black bullet drop tube up a bit from the slider. Just a bit of tweaking will make it function almost 100% of the time. You still get a mis feed once in a while. I'm filling my tubes with a Mr Bullet Feeder, then invert the tube to go into the star. Sure makes handling the little 45gr 22 cal boolits much easier. Waiting for Mr Bullet Feeder to finish the bullet flipper, then it will go direct to the Star from the feeder.

So far post 16 and 17 should answer your problem with bullets sticking. However, not being there one simply cannot see what you have going on there. My suggestion is this... follow post 17's recommendation first and see what happens as it certainly will not hurt. If this doesn't solve the problem then try what I recommended in post #16. Report back on your progress.

I also have a slide and tube for 32's. I buy all the bullet feeder tubes from TAP plastic.
