Hi All,

I have a new (to me) CZ550 in 375 H&H headed my way. I plan to workup some reduced velocity, < 2000 fps, loads with my own cast projectiles. Looking for peoples thoughts on powder and bullet types. The cast loads will be for plinking and target shooting, no hunting.

thanks

My success with XMP5744 in the .416 Rugby would seem to indicate that the .375 should be equally happy with it.

The hunting load drives the 365-grain RCBS bullet at 2050 fps, with enough accuracy to give 100-yard groups in the vicinity of 1".... for TEN rounds.

I would certainly give 5744 a good trial in your .375.

good to hear about the 5744. I also have a CZ in 416 rigby and I just loaded some cast over 5744 to try at the range this weekend.

Have had good luck with the Lyman 375449 sized .379. Use it with 28 gr of 2400 and Dacron filler.
Just got a 38-265D mould from Accurate. It does will with 27.5 of 2400 and the Dacron filler.
Both loads are in the 1750 fps range. Easy to shoot 40 from the bench without bearing yourself up.

Had a Ruger #1 .375 H&H. I worked up many cast bullet loads for this rifle using several bullet designs. During my experimentation, I experienced some hangfires with SR4759, Reloder 7, and H4895. CCI magnum primers corrected the problem. I subsequently used magnum primers for all loads. I don't use a filler with any load, but with the huge .375 case, a filler may serve the same purpose as a magnum primer. I had good luck with the Lyman gas checked 275 grain flat nose, cast of wheelweight alloy and water dropped. I ran these through a .379" die. Bullets had to be seated out very far in the Ruger #1. One of my favorite loads was 34 grains 5744. Muzzle velocity was just under 1,800 fps. According to the books, this is about a maximum load. 32 grains gave almost 1,700, but accuracy was a bit inferior to the heavier load.

I use the GC'd 375449 for medium and heavy practice loads and would pass on hunting NDG with either. Medium load is 36 gr 5744 for 1860 fps and the heavy load is 46 gr 4895 with a dacron filler for 2200 fps.

Working on a light load with a PB'd 375248 at 1000 - 1200 fps with Unique or Bullseye but haven't completed development yet.

My small game load is a .375 RB lightly lubed with LLA over 4 gr Bullseye for 900 fps and excellent accuracy at 50 yards.

My rifle is a M70.

lotech is that load 34 Gr. load of 5744 with a magnum primer and filler? I have not yet cast for my Mod 70 Stainless .375 but it is on the to do list.

the 36 gr 5744 is with a WLR primer and no filler.

My M70 is also a stainless that I've put into a factory wood stock.

I just went with Lyman's accuracy load with the 264 GC over 4198 at 1800 fps and it is one of the finest shooting guns I own. FWIW. Mild to shoot and hits the steel gongs at 100 like a sledge.

#375449 cast of wheelweights, no GC needed. 12 grains of Bullseye, standard primers, no filler.
Ballistics approximate .38-55 blackpowder load. Mild, accurate, effective. Best results with soft alloy, Lee Liquid Alox and unsized bullet, if it will chamber.
