recently my local gunsmith gave me 1000cci lg rifle primers that he had come in an order about a year ago and they got wet with fresh water some how and he did not dare to sell them as he did not trust them. I checked them over and they are now dry and I have tested some of the primers and they fire with lots of fire. my question is are they safe to use and has anyone else run into this situation. thanks and happy reloading.

if you put them in a case and "shot" them without powder and they went bang then I would load them up.
Just keep in mind that I would not personally use the for "critical" rounds. In other words round that my life depended on them going bang.

I wouldn't hesitate one second to use 'em for target/plinking/range loads.

I dropped a tray of primers in the cats water dish once.

Once dryed out 'few days on the window sill in the sun' they worked just fine.

Remember the priming compound is a wet mud when placed into the primers cup.

The priming compound is water soluble. If all the compound stayed in the cups when they got wet, and I would think it would stay unless the primers were removed from the boxes and sloshed around in the water, when dry they should act just like when they left the factory. I'd use them for whatever...

I tried some wet mud from my back yard and it didn't work ;)

I think the primers were just wet, not swimming in water so I think I will use them at the range for plinking only. thanks for the feedback.

I have some really old Winchester primers that were stored in a damp basement for over 20 years. The wooden trays swelled and burst the paper sleeves, but they still went bang just like fresh ones.

Primers that have been wet should perform like new when dried out, unless they have been allowed to soak for a long time. I have used primers that had been wet and dried and did not see a difference in performance.

If it's been a year and in a dry place, I'd use them.
