Guy that has a body shop a couple of doors do from where I work came up and laid about a 4lb slab of lead in my hand. I ask where he go it. He said it came from the late model cars stearing wheel. He also said that it is in there to smooth out vibrations when you turn the wheel. So he gets them when the air bag is replaced. He thinks it is pure lead. Probably you guys all ready know about this but it is new to me. I might go to the local junk yard and inquire.

I'm a Auto Tech and didn't know this. I'm new to searching for lead so any source is news to me lol. Thanx for the info! I will check out a few steering wheels in the morn.

Here is a link with pictures to some lead plates I got last summer. I still don't know what they are for alloy but they work good.

I was told these were from steering columns.

This deserves looking into! Lead is getting harder to find.

So he gets them when the air bag is replaced.
Does the new airbag come with a new weight, too?

I'll have to dig around for these at the salvage yard. If I find out what years/models I'll post them up.

Found another thread that says Chryslers have them, specifically the mini-vans.
