I could use some input on the value of my 41 Mag , Im considering putting it up for sale. Its a Smith & Wesson classic hunter model 657 .This is the Hunter model with the 6 inch full shroud barrel and non fluted cylinder.
Comes with Hogue mono grips factory installed and a Leupold scope base and a set of blued rings. gun is in good shape used but not abused . I checked gun broker but they only showed one and it was new and sold . I under stand its a fairly rare gun with only 500 made . mount and rings go with it scope does not Any input ? many tks KEN

I have absolutely no idea what it is worth, but I am interested in giving it a new home.
Kinda rare, used, heavy, I am guessing (and it IS a GUESS) say, 550.00?
If you are interested, give me a shout.

I'm not any kind of expert, but I would expect $750+ on a bad day. How much did the new one go for on GB? .41's have a pretty loyal following and if there are only 500 of them out there this would be a coveted gun, used or not. Just my lowly opinion. Let us know how it works out!

I'm not familiar with this particular variation, but if it is a pre-lock (no Hillary hole) model I think it would get a $750 price tag at my local shop.

Hereabouts that'd be an 850-950 gun/scope combo. The 41s do tend to sit on the shelf a while though.

If You have the original box, papers, tools etc. You will do better.

Thats new enough it had the scope base holes under the rear sight?? NOT drilled and tapped?

IF it was drilled and tapped...deduct quite a bit.

Surely a collector would be interested but box and papers would make it a lot more attractive.

With any .41 mag I always start with a 210 grain Sierra bullet and 21.3 grains of 296. That shoots one ragged hole with my 657 classic at 25 yds.The load also works well with cast bullets,as does 19.1 grains of 2400 and an old Lyman Keith 210, that mould has been out of production for years. Another load that works well is a 210 or 220 grain bullet and 20 grains of Vit N110.

After seeing the pics and the targets, In my honest opinion you would be CRAZY to get rid of it.
If you do, though, I have 775.00 cash, but that is all I have, not all the gun is worth.

I have made the mistake of selling some really accurate revolvers before.I made up my mind if I ever get any rifle or handgun that really shoots great I won't sell it.

This was a promo gun run made for Lew Horton Distributors . When I went to buy one they were all in the hands of private owners. I bought the classic ( not hunter ) later for $650.00 with a 7 1/2 in. barrel . I would say due to the rarity of the model $750.00 used for the bare gun in great condition would be a fair asking price and go up from there on the scope and accessories .

I would be VERY reluctant to part with any pre-glory hole S&W revolver example at this stage of my hobby interest. I already have a very nice 657 variant on hand that I cherish; IT STAYS. And it gets shot, too--sorry, collection fascists. The things weren't built to look at, they were made to hunt with. With prospective buyers on this thread and offers made, I'll not comment on price--none of my business, and I'm not in the game.

The more I read all these comments the more I lean towards keeping the gun . I thank ever one for their input KEN
