Hunting season is just around the corner....thought I better get out and cast some Lyman 358318, 250 gr. 35 cal. HP's to be shot out of my 358 Winchester Custom Mauser .

I cast about 200 or so today.

Great looking boolits Ben.

You mentioned shooting the 31141 HP's in a .308. May I inquire as to what your experience has been with the .308 & the 31141 HP's?

I have a 31141 HP mold and a .308 I'll be experimenting with sooner or later. Just getting some input.

Thanks in advance for any loading info on this combo.

Murphy:

I have a VZ - 24 barreled with an A & B, F-54 stainless flutted , chambered in 308 Win. with a match chamber.

I have shot some pretty impressive groups with this rifle with a variety of cast bullets in the 150 - 190 gr. range. I size my bullets to .3095

Some favorite powders of mine with cast bullets in my .308 Win. are 2400, RL-7, IMR -4198, IMR - 4895, SR-4759 ,and IMR - 3031.

Here is the rifle;

I always seat the 31141 in this particular rifle so that the nose is seated into the rifling when the bolt closes.

This rifle shoots 1/2 " 5 shot groups quite often at 50 yards.

Ben, Am not sure I admire the quality your rifles more than the the quality of your photos or the other way around. But either way they are both well above the high watermark of quality of work. Look forward to hearing about the first whitetail you take with the 358 this year!

Thanks Glenn and 1Shirt:

I enjoy shooting my cast bullets and building custom rifles. I guess there are worse things I could be doing, right ?
