Hey there.
Posted an inquiry in the paper patched section. And, asking here.

Anyone tried black powder in the 8x57 1888?
The .32 caliber, minimal shoulder and long barrel got me wondering if it wouldn't be fun to try.

Some commercial sporters built on the GEW 88 action were intended for cast boolits only and these sometimes had barrels of steel much softer than the norm for the milspec rifles, so light charges of smokeless or full charges of BP were what they were expected to be used with.

In those days the variations in quality of smokeless powders made handloading with these a risky proposition, so most handloaders stuck with BP.

There should be some BP load data available for the 8mm cartridge. I expect paper patch bullets were the most commonly used.
