Is anyone loading a 1 1/8 oz load in an SP12 wad (Remington hulls) with a filler... had 1000 of them dropped in my lap, and I don't do much upland anymore, so just looking for a trap load for them.

You can use one or two Cheerios as the filler and use a standard 1 1/8 trap load - say 17 gr of Red Dot and you should be OK.

I know some people have used a spent primer as a filler but I would not shoot a steel part through my trap gun.

Not a bad trick with the Cheerios. Another way is to put foam egg carton discs on the bottom to bring up the shot column or on top of the shot. You can make them fairly easy with a sharpened 5/8" nipple. If you put them on top, I would suggest lowering your charge weight a touch with the faster powders like red dot because of the stiffer & shorter wad cushion compared to the actual longer & softer trap wads. If you put them on the bottom they will have a cushioning aspect to the whole wad column, but still drop the charge a touch.
