Hello All:
Has anyone LOADED the .38-40 using a 215 grain bullet?
I've a new Colt SAA 5 1/2" barrel and an LBT 215 grain SWC mold and looking for a good starting load

Thanks in advance.

7 grs of unique should be a good place to start.
I shot a lot of 210's with 7.5 grs of it.
just fidget with it until you are close to point of aim.

One of these days I'm going to have to get a heavier mold for use in my Vaquero in 38-40/40 S&W. For now, the best I can do is the Lee 401-175 TC which drops at 180 for me. It shoots quite well but I'm sure a little more weight would be fun to tinker with.

I had LBT make up a double cavity mold for my 38-40. 401-215 SWC.
My 1st group with Trail Boss was into one ragged hole.
