Hello Folks,
Have any of you ever heard of smokeless gunpowder igniting spontaneously? If so what were the circumstances?
Thanks, Tom

Never heard of smokeless gunpowder in original containers igniting without an external source of spark or heat.
As for long term storage, keep powder in a cool, dark place and it will last for decades.

I don't know how much you are storing but if its a lot you can build a wooden magazine it will help it say cool and dark. i've had some go bad ( you could smell it, it just did not smell like fresh powder ) but never ignite spontaneously.
and just like jim said, it will store for a really long time.

I keep mine in old side by side refrigerators out in my shop. Seems to keep the temp stable, no wild swings in temp.

I keep mine in 20mm ammo cans, the big ones that will hold 3 or 4 8-lb jugs. I keep that down stairs where the temp is very constant.

Cool, dry, consistent. Dark or dim light is supposed to help, but the containers are opaque or black.
