I can't believe the prices hollowpoint moulds are going for on Ebay. There was a 358429 hollowpoint mould on there that sold for $180 !!!! Holy Moly !! That is crazy talk !! I have one but I'm selling it as I like the mould. If I had 10 of them ....I'd probably sell 9 of them for $180 a piece though .....

I thought you were against "evil profiteers" during this time of shortage...

That is exactly why I'm not selling the one that I have .... Sure ...I could probably get that kind of money from my mould ... But I refuse to gouge someone on the price. I could sell my 22's for $100 a brick also but i'd rather keep them for our pleasure shooting .....
I hope these kind of mould prices aren't the new normal ....

I hope so as well!!

On the upside if those are the new normal, then that is good for the custom makers since I would rather spend that money on a custom 4 cavity brass or aluminum mould from NOE, Accurate, etc than for a run of the mill Lyman!!

For an out of production Lyman HP mould like that, I don't think that is outlandish. I wouldn't pay it, I already have one. I would imagine that buying one these days for under a C note would be considered a steal.

And EBay is never about profiteering, the buyers determine what a "fair" price is.

I just don't see a story here......

The opening bid was $80.00 so that means the seller was willing to part with it for a reasonable price !
The bidders are the ones who jacked the price a bit !
This happens at auctions everywhere every day.

I hear you Love Life! I bought a 4 cavity 358429 hollow point mould from Al Nelson at NOE and it rains bullets out it. For $131 plus $5.50 shipping. Captive pins, no wooden ball and stud. Run it a bit hot and fast and it is easy to use as a standard 4 cavity mould. I would not take $260 for it, so I guess it is up to the buyer to decide what is the right price. I would say to check out some of the newer mould makers: they offer some great ones. Choices are better than ever.

I saw the same 358439HP mold go for $275.00 on e-bay LAST SUMMER! I have the page saved on my computer at home somewhere, but I recall it was August of 2012, oddly enough.

I bought that VERY mold for $100.00 on e-bay a month ago during all this mayhem. Came with a PRISTINE box, perfect instructions (dated 1957!) and throws a wonderful boolit with ease. Just drops beautifully from the mold so long as I kept that pin HOT. Used a propane torch to keep it hot between pours.

Then the same mold went for $150.00 just a few days later. now this. Crazy, eh?

Here's the kicker ......... I bought a box of reloading stuff at a garage sale(cheap). And that mold was in there! I already own a 458429 that makes a beautiful bullet and it's a dream to use. And I won't part with it, I've had it too long. The box also had two .452 H&I sizing dies that I also put on eBay. One went for 44 dollars and the last one just sold for 52 dollars! It's crazy that people are willing to pay those prices! I'll use the cash to buy a couple MiHec Cramer HP molds.

I cant say I beat you on the hollowpoint mold auction, but I did pretty well on a Lee mold that was sitting here.

Well, maybe a record for a single cavity Lyman.

This two cavity HP mould recently sold for $233:

And my records show that isn't a record either. I have a June 2008 auction in my records for a NIB Factory original 503 Hollow Point going for $430.00 on eBay.

The market bears the price it bears.

Jeez.....maybe that $300 I paid for the perfect H&G 51 dual cavity dual hollow point wasn't all that much after all!

Maybe it's time to sell a few on Ebay. I hate the idea of opening a Paypal account though. My very early 429422 could be an amusing auction to watch. The big downside would be not having it anymore after the auction ends.

$180 for a 2 cav doesn't come close to the record. Look at the thread I started on 7/22/2012. That mold went for $262 + and I got drug over the coals a little for my OP. LOL There is another thread somewhere about a Lee 6 cav mold ($39) going for 150 or 160. Some people just got more money than others, I suppose. They are free to spend it as they see fit, free enterprise at work.

Edit--Just yesterday, on Ebay, a Star sizer-lubricator went for 475 or 495. Had 2 dies, 1 punch, die removal tool and heater base. If you bought it all brand new from Magma, 8+ weeks backorder, as I understand it, about retail. People want, people see, people buy.

People want, people see, people buy.

Just put it on my credit card... I'll pay for it later.

Noticed a little while ago some "bargain basement" seller had a Lee Classic Cast breech lock press for sale (that's all...just the press...sells everywhere for about $105)..he's asking $340 "buy it now" for it. Gotta admit some people just don't have a clue...of course that has freight included...maybe from Nigeria huh?
