My electric lead pot has a broken spade at the end of the heating element even with the outside jacket. I can see the contact point in the middle of the end of the element. Is it possible to strip the outer jacket of the heating element and expose the inner contact point and reattach the wire or will I need a replacement element?? If an element, then where can I get one. The pot is a SAECO and I think they are no longer made.

could you post a picture of where it's broken?

Trim back the outer shield and ceramic coating and spot weld a new spade terminal to the inner wire. Shortening the wire some will not affect the resistance in a noticeable way. I did this to an old Lyman 20 pound pot I bought for cheap.

Use the search function and look for "Saeco", remove the quotation marks.

Thanks everyone...you helped save my old reliable casting tool!! I have had that pot for over 35 years. I bought it used with the bottom pour plugged and learned to use it as a dip pot for all those years. The LEE bottom pour I got is giving me fits to get use to. It works better with my 2 cavity than with my 6 cavity. Once I have the SAECO repaired I will have one pot for both types of molds.
