I am about 3 days from taking delivery on a nice 722 in .222 Remington. I have about 500 RCBS 22-055 boolits cast and ready. I have the following powders available (and not much chance of getting other powder now). I have IMR 4895, 4831, 3031; Rx 7, 2400 and Unique. Does anyone have a favorite & accurate load using these powders with cast boolits?

Thanks, Malcolm

Guess you will have to do some SWAG work from there since that is the ONLY slow powder listed.

I used to have a 722 in 222 and loved it. I used 4895 with a charge of all I could get in the case. You can't get enough of that powder in the case to get you into trouble.

I got my best groups to date this morning with my 788 in .222 rem. This rifle has been a pain to get boolits to shoot accurately.

I put 8 mx-3 55 grainers under 1.5" @100 yds. The load was 18 gr. imr-4895 w/.3gr dacron and a Rem 5 1/2 small pistol primer. The brass was re-formed speer .223 brass trimmed to 1.72". Standard case length is 1.70" and the extra length was to cover up throat erosion from 30 years of jacketed loads. I know that group won't set any records but is better by a factor of 2 compared to what I had been getting. The longer case seems to have made all the difference.

The lube was tac#1 and the bore was squeaky clean after 20 rounds.

I inherited this rifle when I was 15 and has been my constant companion for the last 30 years. The .222 rem is a classy little ctg. I am sure you will enjoy yours as much as I have mine.
