Having a little feeding problem with my S&W 4516-1-mostly FTRTB issues. The mag is fine with fairly new Wolff springs and the recoil spring is Wolff. However, I'm wondering about the recoil spring. Both ends are closed except on end is tighter to slip over the guide rod than the other end. Should that end go on the rod first and the more open or looser end toward the muzzle? that's the way it is with a 1911...not sure about this one.

I was told Wolff is under new management has gone to outsourcing the manufacturing process of their springs. The springs are now made offshore. Have you tried a new Smith factory spring -I'm assuming you just started having this problem after you changed springs. The 4516 is pretty reliable.

I hate to hear that. Wolff has always made the best springs. Unfortunately, you can't get new springs from S&W. they recommend Wolff or Numrick Arms. The 4516 and the dash1 are two different pistols. The 4516 has two recoil springs, one inside the other, and the -1 has only one. Mine is the -1.

Fail to return to battery...the slide won't close totally. I think I know what's wrong in this case. I had put the recoil spring in backwards not paying attention last time I shot and cleaned it. You have to have the small(tight) end in first toward the breech. I had it backwards. That could have been the problem. Now rectified, I'll try it next time.
