Some time back I found a reference list of old and new lyman molds however I have since run across numbers not listed or with incomplete info (style, weight etc.) I am posting this list and inviting anyone to post or email me with molds that are missing or with information to fill in the gaps on incomplete listings. I will modify the list an then hope to get it put on a sticky for all to reference.

Thanks; that's a nice, handy list. Several of us have made up similar tabulations over the years, but each adds something to our knowledge. Mine (to be posted on CASTPICS soon) is aimed at setting out the dates of manufacture of the early Ideal moulds (1884 - late1915, when the Marlin-made Ideals stopped production) and the physical construction of the moulds, but you have to refer to the Ideal Handbooks (now nearly all available as reprints from www.cornellpubs.com) to find the pictures and identify the purpose, weights, designer, etc. It is handy to have the weights and shapes as given in your list.

The Lyman Reloading Handbook 46th Ed. has a list of all the known mould numbers and production dates. The Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook 3rd Ed. has an extensive list of mould numbers along with bullet weights and styles. Neither of these tables is absolutely complete, but they are both extensive and very useful references for the avid caster.

Thanks for the great references. I guess I should have done more homework and stop trying to re-invent the wheel.

Glen:

I should say that I was delighted to find Ken Walters' (he is our "klw", and NOT Ken Waters) article in Lyman's No. 46, well after I had begun my study. But his references only went back to around around 1912 (Marlin / Ideal Handbook No. 22, IIRC, plus a short listing of recent designs from 1896 or 1897); I was able to find several earlier issues, and carry the story back another 20 years or so. His information was more "meaty" than mine, though, and we were both happy to see each others' writeups.
