I finally was able to buy myself a CZ 527 and Instantly fell in love. Today I was having so much fun loading and shooting that I was actually sad when the sun started to set.
I bought it the other day and figured I would run 50 rounds of factory Remington 40 grains to see how it shot. I sighted it in at 50 yards and they all fit into one ragged hole. I then put 3 Ice Mountain water bottles at 75, 100 and 225 yards. I kept the cross hairs at center of mass and walked them out to 225 in three shots. The mist at 225 was nearly the same as 75, and I am certain that any coyote shot at 225 yards would be having a very bad day.

After I used the factory j-words as my control, I then started playing around with some 55gr. GSRN cast boolits seated to an OAL of 1.713. So far, I have used 4gr or unique with very poor results. I attribute some of it to a little moisture draw in the powder that was playing hell with my old redding powder thrower, but I am quite sure that the unique is not the powder for my CZ.
Before the sun went down, I was able to load three rounds with 3.5 grains of titegroup and they all touched at 25 yards.
I am just wondering if there are any cz-527 owners who have worked up some impressive loads. I am a good student, so any and all advise is greatly appreciatedd.

If you search 22 hornet a few threads come up. My CZ 527 with 55g cast over 4227 is a tackdriver at 100y. Its one of my favorite firearms, my CZ 550 Safari is creaping in there too! I think I need a CZ in the middle somewhere.

I tried again today and again found that my cz is all over the place. I have to think that my powder choices have been the culprit, but I wonder if I am not getting a uniform neck that is letting pressures fluctuate. I think I will try a necksize only followed by a crimp. As of now, I have been getting a little worried.

Try belling the case mouth, I suspect you may be getting lead shaving of the boolit.

The CZ 527 with 55g cast may be a problem as it has a 16 twist barrel. I think you will find boolits under 45g will work best. That being said I have not had time to work on cast loads in mine. Mine shoots 40g and 45g j words very well but it doesn't do well with 52g or 55g j words.

M-tecs is correct in my opinion, I've found the same problem with anything at 50 grain and up. There is a group buy that closes tomorrow, it's a 225107. I'm hoping that it will perform in my CZ. Currently I'm using a 225438 and it's pretty good out to 100.

I had my Rifle reamed to 22 k-Hornet, along with thinning the filler block in the magazine and lengthening the follower. done to allow use of the 60 grain boolit.

I shoot a Ideal 225415 at 50 grains and a NEI 22-54 ( .640 long) at 60 grains. Alloys used; 50:50, 50:50 HT’d, WW’s, 92-6-2…adjust OAL to engrave front driving band into the rifling.

I’ve had great success with Accurate 2015 and Alliant ReLoader 7 powders. Try loads with both Small Rifle primers and Federal small pistol primers. I never had much success with Unique. You might try AA 1680 or Alliant MP 300 also

I love this Rifle.

P.S. do a thorough job to remove all the copper jacket fouling. those Remington jackets are soft and really foul a barrel.

I took a trip to a mid-michigan sporting center and found some .35 grain hornady xts, some 40 grain Barnes hollowpoints, and some 1680 powder. I first tried the .35 grain hornadys over 12.3 grains of 1680. I was very happy with the groups at 50 yards, but had to quit because of a nice may snow storm that was so bad I couldnt see the end of a pine row 150 yards long. I shot at a friends house and I found it was about an inch at 50 yards off hand, and I was very happy. However, after a car ride home in a 70 degree environment, the scope was off when I got home. I trued the scope up, and then noticed alot of unburnt powder in the barrel. I was using Wolff small pistol primers that were pretty old, so I will try some newer federal tomorrow. I also feel that a good barrel cleaning with some copper solvent is on the horizon.
It is a shame that I feel this little bit of apprehension regarding this CZ rifle. Don't get me wrong, I have a strange attraction to the gun, but I cannot stand an inaccurate rifle. I think that after spending almost a thousand dollars for the rifle, dies, powder, and a nice Redfield Revolution scope that I should at least be getting 1 inch groups at 100 yards. I had a response to a post by Bullshop that suggested I wait until I have a few hundred rounds of factory ammo through the gun before I come up with an opinion. He told me that the lead might have a few burrs that need to be rounded down. I plan on trying again tomorrow.

Thanks to all who have given me advise on this journey. If I should suddenly figure this firearm out, I will have a friend for life.

Casey.

Mine with jacketed will shoot under .5 @100y all day long, yours should too. The CZs are line bored and ut together very well. Try LilGun and Hornady 50g SPSX bullets and see how it does. If it wont shoot that or factory S&B 45g RN (The ammo CZ proof fires with) call CZ you have a problem.

For non cast I did find the 40g v-max was too long to feed. It doesn't shoot any better then Winchester/Remmington/Sierra 45g hornet bullets under 300y. I've shot 34g-64g and the 45 and short 50s like the SPSX are king. The 64s around 900fps were awesome but any faster didn't hit anything. The 1:16 is definitely the key.

Has the rifle been bedded and/or floated yet? We place a lot of credit on guns being able to shoot moa out of the box, but maybe not all factory rifles can. Temperature, humidity and variations of hold all influence poi, not just bullets: everything is part of the equation. There are many articles and youtube videos out there that show how to extract accuracy from these fine tools. The hornet is a fine round, but to get mine to shoot well I needed to keep the bullets 45gr or lower due to the twist rate of my barrel, neck size the brass, uniform the flash holes, cut the flash holes to uniform size and full length size, slightly. Also a fast pistol magnum powder, such as ww295, h110 range, worked well in my and most others(refer to bench rest site) guns, as the round just works well at higher pressures in that little case. Cast will shoot well, with a gc. Just some thoughts to throw out there, but they all go hand in hand with making a stock rifle into an accurate one.

Mine came bedded and floated from the factory. Gotta love CZ! I've loved this 527 American since day one, and my 550 American Safari is cementing my need for a medium bore CZ.

If looking at jacketed; try the Hornady 45 gr BEE not a very good BC but very accurate in everything I have tried it in. Even a 22-6mm @ 4000+ fps. (1:16 Twist) Looks like a mini XTP handgun bullet.

Anyone here loaded any 300 MP under a 44 grn 225438 Boolit?

I am thinking the same thing after reading everything I can find about reloading the hornet, 225438 and maybe 10 to 11 gr 300 mp. 300 mp has worked great in 357 and 44's that I have loaded with it so far in both wheel guns and carbines. A NOS Charles Daly 22 hornet is a new adventure for me. A new Lyman 225438 should be waiting in mail box when I get home.
