Got more than a few like that growing up at my Mother's house. She put two metal "shepards hooks" back to back, best trap made. I didn't get them quite like that though, normally in front of both legs... Feel bad for the little bugger.

Normaly I would try to help him out , I can feel his pain, but I'm not sure trying to get him out would be such a good idea , he might be kinda aggravated at this situation and ready to bite, scratch and kick if you touched him....especially where he's caught. Maybe just lay the pole down and let him try to undo himself.
I just pray I never wind up like that.
