I was given about 100 lbs of zinc contaminated lead. If it is not at least 850 f, it is like a thick sludge. Can I use it as it stands and keep it hot or should I purify it?

I don't know if he will take a zinc alloy, but there is a member here named Shady Grady IIRC that trades lead for zinc. Look him up.

There's a thread about adding copper to strengthen an alloy. One way of adding it is to throw some pennies in the pot. Pennies are copper coated zinc. The zinc helps the copper blend into the lead. Then you skim off the zinc from the surface. It is an interesting thread and I would read it if I had zinc contaminated lead. Another thread that is a stickie talks about how to remove zinc from the lead with sulfur. You really don't want a bunch of zinc in your lead when trying to make boolits.

Depending on where you are at the drift boat guys use the triangle anchors and need new ones all the time. over on the yee bay there asking about 60.00 for a 30#er if your in an area that drifts i'd hit cast a few up for 150.00 for three post them on craigs list and get some more lead.

heat to 600 degrees skim off the lumpy stuff on top of the mix try about 10 lbs , then cast some bullets and ck the quality of the bullets and do a hardness ck to determin wether to use as is or delute with another good alloy , sounds like you may have a good amout of zinc in your lead ?
If the contamited alloy fizz up when a tolit bowel cleaner called THE WORKS is poured on it you have alot of Zinc in it maybe to much to bother to remove.

Thanks for all the help. This stuff is easily 50% zinc and at 650 degress, it is like mud. After clogging up everything, I decided it is not worth my time.
