I know it's been done successfully, but I'm kinda wondering if it's likly to work or not likely to work? Perhaps one only knows once they've tried.

I have the smaller/lighter version (358477) of 150 grains which casts 142 grains (HP) out of my altered mold.

Sounds like something you might want to try just to satisfy your own curiosity. I shoot a SWC that weighs about 138grs through my HiPower. Seating depth for reliable feeding is the problem. I think it would be hard to predict w/o testing in an individual gun. Just my opinion.

It's for a friend's gun (I don't have a 9mm, although I'd like to someday), and I also think it will probably just come done to trying it. LOL!

Not going to be much powder capacity with that one in a 9x19. Watch your
pressures.

I tried the RCBS 38-150 SWC, which is nearly identical, and it didn't pan out well. The boolit had to be seated so deep that case bulged on some of the brass enough to hang up as it fed. IIRC, I used the starting load for a 147 grain jhp, but feeding problems in my S&W M-39 caused me to give it up as a bad plan. It was pretty accurate, though.

Ok, thanks for commenting. The reduced brass life and poor feeding don't sound too worth it. Might try a few just to see, though.

A lot of ideas are worth trying, but there are mucho more bullets that will work a lot better in a 9mm than the 358477. Have your buddy buy a Lee 2 cavity in an appropriate style, its less than the price of a box of bulk 9mm loads.

I too load a 150gr. SWC in the 9MM. It is the Lee PB SWC. I use FC cases and it works good. I just cst up a good bit more of these over the weekend and am going to try some Blue Dot with it. Shooting them out of my Belg./Port. BHP MK3 sized @ .358.

How does the length of that boolit interfere/bulge your cases? Or, are the FC cases better for this application? Also, what bhn are you shooting those SWC's at?

Which powder have you been predominantly using with those boolits?

Finally, what AOL has been working for you?

Sorry for all the questions.

I have used the 358477 in the 9mm.
it was part of a destructive test I done on a Taurus pt-92.
it fed perfectly and even shot quite accurately sized to 358.
it was the boolit that was used in the final load for the gun.
the rest of the recipe was 4.2 grs of titegroup, 4.0 bulged the case very severely.
4.2 blew the primer and ovaled the primer hole as well as blew out the bottom of the case.
2.0 grs of a fast powder like that is bout where i'd start, and titegroup would not be my powder of choice.

Thanks for commenting. Do you think it matters which brass those 477's are loaded in? I suppose they have to be seated well past the crimp groove?

FC cases didn't bulge for me. I was using Bullseye. Away from my data book now though.

it's been a few years back, but I do recall I segregated to one brand of brass also.
it may have been win or maybe fed I used.
