Well, I was all excited about loading 311299s for my Weatherby Vanguard in 308 Win, until I discovered they won't chamber... If I try to force one of these boolits, which extends at least 1" beyond the case mouth, I get rifling marks at least 1/2" down the boolit from the ogive, almost 3/4" total. The nose of the boolit mikes at 0.303". I tried seating deeper, didn't solve the problem. Sanding down the nose to 0.299-0.300 did allow them to chamber.

Are the Weatherbys known for especially tight chambers? Anybody else have this problem, and how did you solve it? Got a bunch of boolits with great long-range hunting potential (200-300 yds.), but can't sand the nose of each one...

I had the same problem with my 311299 mold, nose miked at 0.3025", just enough to hang up in the bore. I bought a Lee .301" sizing die and nose size only...if that makes sense. I "machined" an old nut driver shaft to fit the nose with a dremel tool and use it as an ejector punch with BT Snipers auto ejection systems. It's faster than a hammer which also works. Now that they chamber properly I get one ragged hole at 100 yds if I do my job behind the trigger.

Same problem with the Blackout barrel I have using the xxx299. The new 300 barrels today are really coming out as 300 bores. THAT IS GOOD! ... felix

Yes the bore on a US 30 is supposed to be .300".

I've had issue with bullets accidently getting over 301" with RCBS 30-180-FN and the Lyman #311299. Both have long bore ride sections. With that much bore ride diameter needs to be closely monitored. Just to much crush to chamber. Make sure your mold is closing all the way tight. If it will only cast a .303 bullet then you need a different mold. Find someone who needs a .303 nose. I've a #314299 for that.

I had the same problem with a new Howa 1500 in .308..Nose on bullet will drag in bore and not close bolt easily. I had Tom at Accurate make me a 'bore rider' 175 gr. and am happy as a new frog. A lot easier than sanding boolits.

.300 " for your land measurement ( as mentioned by others in the above post ) isn't " tight ", it is the standard norm for American made .30 cal. barrels.

The barrel isn't your problem, it is the " fat nose " on your mold at .303 " that is the problem. I also have some .303 " - 305 " ( fat nose bore riders ) from a few of my .30 cal. molds. They usually won't chamber in any of my many .30 cal. rifles.

Find a 7.65 Argentine, a 7.7 Jap, a 303 British and you might have a suitable combination if your drive bands are large enough on your bullets to fill the throats.

Sounds like you now have a very good reason to go mold shopping and look for a used mold from someone on the forum ( In the Swapping and Selling section of the forum ) that can tell you the nose dia. of the as cast bullets BEFORE you buy the mold.

I had the same problem until I bought a nose sizer die from Buckshot.
