After considerable research finally broke down and got one. SN puts it at 1941 mfg. and has walnut stock with ID tag under butt plate. Top of tang stamped 53, which means it was rearsenaled in 1953 and stamp on barrel shank indicates it was rebarreled in that year. bore is almost pristine, rifling crisp and mirror bright, butt stock is only moderately beaver chewed.

I bought a Swiss Products clamp on scope mount for it and have an old Weaver Micro-Trac K1.5-1 steel body scope in great shape with super clear optics. I haven’t used the scope for 25-30 years, but remember it has a nice wide field of view and was capable of very fast target acquisition. The old K series Weavers can take severe recoil with no ill effects and even 1.5 power optics will be better than iron sights with these old eyes.

Ordered 440 rounds of GP11 7.5x55 1979 Swiss milsurp ammo.

Great looking rifle. I would love to have one like it but have not seen any in as good of condition as you describe in quite a bit. Where did you wonder onto this find? I think you will love it. Everyone I know of that have them really like them. james

Congrats on a fine looking rifle. The K31's are just excellent rifles. Every time I take the bolt apart I am amazed at the machine work. And they shoot cast really, really well. [smilie=w:

Very nice congrats! :drinks:

I bought one a few years back, liked shooting it so much I decided I needed another, so I could mount a scope on the first one.

The PRVI ammo that wideners usually has (in normal shooting markets) is excellent, and a great way to bulk up your supply of boxer brass @ $13/20.

I shot some GP11 ammo a couple weeks ago and it chrono'ed around 2600fps out of my K31. It's good stuff.

If you're going to be reloading much, get a K31 specific die so you don't have to neck size your brass. Redding and Hornady both make K31 specific 7.5x55 die sets.

Very high quality rifles. You will be pleased with it. I have three sets of
K31 dies. The Hornady dies do all the loading now, they produce my most
accurate ammo in this cartridge.

I got the battle pack of 480 rounds GP11 ammo in, was surprised it is a 1992 run, not 1979. It is some of the best looking milsurp ammo I have ever seen.

Guisan, the Swiss guru over at Swiss Weapons Forum, said 1994 will be the last of GP11 milsurp to be had, as it was discontinued that year.

Rearsenaled in 1962? Was there a ID tag beneath butt plate? ID tag for mine, stamped 53 on tang, showed the man rifle was issued to was born in 1934.

Look on barrel shank right next to receiver, if rebarreled, would likely have a stamp there similar to this: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92/TANSTAAFL-2/-79196301118BB10E2.png

I am a little bit jealous. May I ask how much you paid for it? It's hard to tell a good value for things in the current market where things are going for 3x their value left and right.

$300.00 from LGS.

There are still some deals, outside the current favorites of the day rage.

Know what you mean about purist collectors versus shooters. Have three M39 rifles, two of which are like new. but also have a prebubbaed cut down 1937 Tula MN paid $25.00 for. Did some more work on the chopped Tula, and it is now my hands down favorite as for carrying and shooting.

Very nice rifle. I would like to find one like that too.
Some of my shooting buddies compete in a tournament once a year that is sanctioned by the Swiss Government. They supply the targets which are different each year. They are printed with a theme. One target I saw had a middle ages soldier with a crossbow behind a crenoline castel wall. If a certain score is achieved the Swiss Government sends the recipient a medal. Which are quite nice.
It is my understanding that anyone can apply to hold the match once a year but one of the shooters MUST speak fluent Swiss. Any rifle used must be of unmodified Swiss manufacture. Looks like lots of fun.

They are nice rifles for sure, I put off getting one for years, glad I finally did so now.

Speak fluent Swiss, which one, Italiano, Français, Deutsch, or all three? (;>)
