Not a great pic but the only one I have right now, I built the stock from a piece of walnut I salvaged from a chunk that I got from a guy who was cutting up a large walnut tree for firewood!

Here is mine with 300 Whisper barrel (1/10 twist). I dislike the Burris scope...not enough eye relief. I am looking for a rifle stock, but this may make gun illegal (barrel too short to mount rifle stock)

Lonegun1894

Funny you mention that being illegal. I keep thinking I need to send in a check and some paperwork into ATF, and then find a stock to use with my 10" barrels.

Encore pistol is a Virgin Valley 6mm 15 3/4" with 1-14 twist tight neck Shilen select bbl. Has Virgin Valley wood with ebony caps. This is the most accurate gun I have ever owned.

There is also a Virgin Valley 221 FB stainless 10" Shilen SS airgauged bbl with this set.

Here's the only one I have or have ever had, got it in a package deal off an auction site last year along with a collector Ruger 3 Screw 45 Colt. It's in 45 Colt/410 and I guess from reading the threads, it's a Type 1, was told here on the forum that's it's a 1969 gun, serial # in the 10XXX range. Don't think it was ever fired with the 45 barrel and I have a 256 Winchester Mag barrel for it (which is on it in the picture) but have never shot it yet. Have had it up for sale at a couple of local gun shows but no takers yet, so one of these days maybe I'll get to shoot it, but only with the 256 barrel.

Bullberry--and other stockmakers--will work with customers' wood. Just ask. The price is often the same as their "utility" grade stocks. You do take some risk though, cuz you don't know what's lurking inside a block of wood: knots, stains, bark inclusions, bugs... But there IS a bit of a brag factor in a stock from your own wood.

I just got this 12" Bullberry Encore in 445 SM. The brake screws off.
I intend my main load to be with the CP 300 gr. WFNGC or the LaserCast 310 gr. version
The forearm looks a little cut off because it is to allow me to mount a Magnetospeed to the barrel.
I would like to add a 20" 444 barrel and rifle stocks next.

Is there a reason for 15.75 instead of something like 16.25. Over 16 you can use a rifle buttstock. Love those little carbines.

Love those little carbines.

+1 on that! That .204 Ruger chambered Contender I posted a couple of pages back has become one of my favorite rifles, I have several heavy caliber rifles and decided I needed a good varmint gun so my Contender became a carbine. I have only a 357 Herrett barrel (10") for use as a pistol but since buying that barrel and making the stock/forearm I have never put the 10" barrel back on, it just FEELS right and I'm having too much fun terrorizing the crows around my place!:bigsmyl2:

Once a pistol always a pistol. You can put a rifle stock and barrel on it and the frame is still a pistol. BUT, TECHNICALLY, if it started life as a rifle, it can't be used as a pistol. The way that the frame is determined is how it was first sold. If you bought it new as a pistol it's a pistol. If you bought it as a rifle, it's a rifle. When you buy a bare frame, it's transfered as a pistol.
You can shoot a pistol with a 16" barrel. You can NOT shoot a rifle with a barrel less than 16" unless the frame is registered as a short barrel rifle.

Doc Stihl said it correctly, there is no restriction on barrel length for a pistol so you can shoot with a 24" barrel if you choose to as long as it was registered as a pistol. If it was registered as a pistol and you put a rifle butt stock on it you better have a barrel that is at least 16" long to comply with the law. I have a 16-1/8" barrel I can shoot either way.

Glad to see I'm not the only sub caliber crazy around here. My .14 Ackley Hornet Encore barrel should be ready in a few weeks. After that's done I will work on getting a barrel for my .14 flea gear.

To simplify this rifle/pistol thing it's perfectly legal to use a 16" or longer barrel but if a shoulder stock is added then the barrel MUST be 16" or longer. It's perfectly legal to convert that Contender into a carbine by fitting a shoulder stock and 16+" barrel and as long as it was originally sold as a pistol it's perfectly legal to switch back and forth, just don't use a short barrel with the shoulder stock! A rifle however CAN NOT be legally converted to a pistol! As long as it started as pistol it can go either way but if it starts as a rifle it must remain in a rifle configuration.

So to make a long story short if you want a 16+" barrel go for it, you will be legal either way and with that barrel you can also opt for the carbine configuration.

unclebill
11-19-2013, 08:02 PM
ok
thanks you guys.
mine is legally a pistol so i can do what i want except the short bbl. rifle stock.
a 16+ would be ideal for me then.
i decided i am just going to make a aluminum benchrest forend with holes drilled and movable pillars for any hole spacings i run across.
while i would LIKE to spend a fortune on lots of different wood furniture.
i cant afford it and would rather spend my limited funds on barrels.
thanks again guys.

A good friend borrowed mine to teach his son to shoot. When he brought it back, it looked like this. He made me a shoulder stock for it. I had to explain to him that it needed a longer barrel to be legal. :) I eventually found a .222 barrel for it.

The 10" .32-20 barrel on the T/C frame. These barrels are impossible to find now and those of us who may have one consider ourselves very lucky. T/C made the bore of the barrels .308 and not .312 so .308 varmint bullets could be used. When casting bullets, one can size from .309 to .313 with no adverse affects. I routinely size my cast bullets to .312 and you will see the results. Bullets shown are 110gr .308 varmint bullets. This load moves them to about 2400 fps out of the 10" barrel.

I ordered the frame from another user here on the forum. The frame is new (NIB) and I don't know how long he had it before deciding to sell it. If you need a blued G2 frame which is NIB, I can point you to a straight shooter who has at least one left. I have had the bbl for over 20 years.

My local gun stores could not locate any T/C frames from their suppliers and Gander Mountain, God bless them, only wants $9,483.76 for a *** used T/C. I figured I'd ask here on the CB forum and it paid off for me.

Might want to look into the "Taco Hold" that is used in Handgun Silohuette shooting. Much more stable than the tea cup ;-)

I liked the video also but I would suggest that you not close the gun with that flipping motion as it will ruin the frame and barrel. A more delicate closing will help it to last longer and keep accuracy

The Suppressor weight is 10oz, it does look ridiculous on the end of the barrel, but the extra weight isn't really that noticeable.

Have an encore in 223 26 inch bull stainless. Farthest confirmed kill on a prairie dog is 564 yds. I love mine.

Just got done getting everything in for this one, hopefully get it scoped up tomorrow. 18" 1-14 twist 357 maximum barrel from MGM on a pro hunter frame. I had E Arthur Brown do a trigger job on it before they shipped it and I highly recommend there work the trigger is great.

I had this .500S&W Magnum shoulder thumper for a couple of years and shot roughly 150 rounds through it during that time. But it was really only good for beating up the shoulder for recoil giggles at the end of the day after all the serious shooting was done. Everyone that shot it thought it was huge fun. But it never really did group that well. Mind you I didn't play with it much for sighting in.

I've since moved on and sold it recently to a buddy that wanted the handgun length barrel and was going to mate the action to a rifle barrel and flip it.

And before you all call me a dastardly criminal our SBR laws are very different up this way. What you see is considered as "non restricted" up here North of the 49th.

That is nice. I had Virgin Valley build me a 20PPC in about 1999. I wish I had never sold it. I was going to do a 20vartag after reading about it but got side tracked on the ppc which was a little overbore.

I don't own any of the Contender/Encore platforms in handgun form (or in any form anymore), but I sure appreciate nice set-ups, and those are some nice ones. Lean toward the XP and MOA specialty pistols myself.
