Have just finished up the first batch of these in FP and HP. I want to use WW296 for loading, but can`t find any data for this bullet. I extrapolated that something like 26-28g should be in the ballpark. Has any of you loaded this combination? I`m shooting a 500 S&W BFR in the 10 inch version. Comment, advice anyone...

Well, no advice from me, but that sounds like a fun one! Doesn't get much bigger than that in a handgun! Good stuff

What in the cornbread are you shooting at / through?
I am using a 50 beowulf with 400 grain hp's over 28 grains of H-110, if that helps. It will anchor a 600 pound donkey at 100 yards and will throw a 16 pound rail road track plate 15 feet after ripping it off of two welded 7/16ths chains. There is nothing that thing wont destroy, but I dont use it much due to the destruction.

Howdy x101airborne,
Always good to hear from a fellow Texan! My son and I are predominately deer and hog hunters and plan to use this guy for that, as well. I fully understand it's waaaaay overkill, but we're enjoying spending the time together working up loads and fine tuning this monster. BTW, its a 10 inch BFR, so there's plenty of cylinder to fill...

Hey, that is awesome. I would work up loads for a 25mm anti tank rifle if my son wanted to. Like you said, it is just a good time together. Well, good luck! My dad and I will be down in your area this fall on the opening weekend of south dove season. Keep in touch and let us know how it goes. And yes, we need pics!

Here you go, x101airborne,
Picture of the rig and some of the combos that we're trying.

Got some of them fancy Lipstick Bullets, 300 grainers going just under the speed of light

and...

Some from NOE's mold weighing in at around 575g

Both are loaded with W296 and LRM primers in new WW brass. When it stops raining, I'll make a trip to the range with Sonny, targets, and the chrony. Will check back in then.

Really wish somebody would share a starting point on the MiHec .502-600, but we shall carry on anyway. BTW, in flat point configuration, these guys are weighing in at around 630 grains, so be advised.

Stay Tuned...

Wow that is a cannon for sure! Interested to hear a range report. Glad you and your son are having fun. Doing stuff with the kids sure makes it even more fun!

I dont use 296 very often but ran these through Quickload and came up with MIN 29.7gr, 1247 fps and Max 32gr. max, 1339 fps. 33.5gr will give max pressure with little to no gain in velocity and pressure goes up to 52,000psi, 32 keeps pressure at a safe level, Most of these loads and others from quickloads are about 10% higher in pressure and velocities from what I have found. stay on the safe side.

Thanks, Daytona. I really appreciate it. I guesstimated and went with 30g to start with. I'll let you know what the chrony and my soon-to-be sore right hand say...

I understand the predicted impending soreness, but when I shot the 500 Smith out of the Smith platform, it was just a gentle push that forced me to take a step backwards. My 44 mag stings the palm more than that 500 smith did. I am not a bigger is better kind of guy, but I do so love the 500 smith. And if you would like to try some of my 450 grainers, I would gladly send you some to try. Just PM me.

Hey Kids,
Still haven't gotten out with this one yet but did post a range report on some of my other loadings at the following thread.
