I've gotten pretty good results paper patching some LBT design 220 grain .358 boolits I purchased in my 9.3x57 Husqvarna. The boolits are not soft, and my guess is that they are either WW or #2 alloy.

Anywho, I wrap 'em twice with wet cotton paper from Buffalo Arms, clip off the twisted ends when dry, then roll 'em in a baggy of LLA. That brings the finished diameter up to .367 or so. Load 'em over a stiff charge of IMR3031 and push the PP boolit down the necks lightly compressing the load. I don't re-size the brass or the necks, but the PP boolits fit snug and stay put.

I may be lucky as the Husky has a long leade that may help with paper patching, but on the other hand its's so long there's no way to seat boolits out far enough to touch the lands. They apparantly make the jump to the lands ok, because accuracy is good and flat shooting too at 100 yds. I have yet to find any "paper" down range. My guess is the paper is still with the boolits in the berm.

Anyway, this setup works for me, and I like the clean barrel as a bonus.

Hello Nesdou44
Are you using a 96 or 98 action for those loads?...
Thanks,

Mine's a Model 46, a 96 action.

Gotta give those swedes credit for not letting anything go to waste. On the 96 action I have seen 8mm, 30-06 and a few other calibers that must sureley tax the strength of the action. Sarco had a bunch a few years ago and still advertise them in the shotgun news. My 9.3x57 is on a 98 action. Funny thing, I've only seen one 9.3x57 for sale here in loosiana on a 96 action. You'd think that there would be more. Guys down here hunt with magnums all the way from the 7mm, 300, and the wsms also. Jeeze the deer down here aren't that big. Go figure. Frank

I'm another 9.3mm addict who has wrapped .358" boolits with 9# paper to fit the .366" grooves in my CZ-550. Throat length is about .300" or so @ .3665", as best I can determine--and wrapped boolit diameter is .367". I used Lyman #358430 poured in unalloyed lead for cores, 2 wraps of the lightweight paper, then LLA coated. These shot VERY well atop 16.0 grains of 2400, and the drive band portion of the boolit was long enough to seat in the case a short distance and have light leade engagement.
