I have this mold and may buy a Marlin in this caliber. I believe Indiana now will allow this caliber for deer. I am guessing the pre-micro groove works well with most cast bullets and I have this mold. What velocity and accuracy are you getting? I am looking for higher velocity for hunting but still want about a 2 in. group at 100yards. Also, is anyone having luck with micro groove guns in this caliber and bullet combo? thanks ahead of time

You have a micro-groove rifle, right? You'll need to get the bore diameter. There is several ways to go about this. I shot cast bullets into a snow bank and measured the diameter of picked up bullets with a dial caliper. If you can shoot a bullet into a medium that won't disrupt the bullet you can do it this way. Or you can get a soft lead slug that is a little larger than the bore and drive it through your barrel, then measure the diameter. After you get the bore diameter try to get your bullets about .002 inch larger. Sometimes this isn't easy as the mold may not cast large enough or a die might have to be custom made for you. If you are lucky you can get the bullet .002" larger than bore. Then go to a cast bullet manual such as Lyman or RCBS and try their suggested loads. Then there's the bullet hardness and the type of lube. Assuming you've cast for other rifles follow what you've done before. For me, I use wheel weights in my 32 special, 45-70, 45-90 and 30-30 and I've tried different lubes. So far I've been lucky as I've not seen much leading with these calibers. Finally I think you'll need a gas check bullet with a long shank for micro-groove -- but that shank issue is just my opinion/experience.

I don't have that mold but I'm getting 2 MOA with a 1978 model micro groove using a NOE 360-200-FN (RCBS clone) running 2180fps IIRC. My actual boolit weight is 215gr.

Post a pic of that 358430 molds please.

the rifle is pre-micro groove. Lyman's 358430 is a blunt plain base round nose bullet that casts 195-200 grains. It was also used in 38 special to duplicate the 200 grain bullet in that caliber.

I doubt you will be able to push this boolit very hard without some leading being that its a plain base design.

Just starting to load cast for my 336 Microgroove 35 Rem. At this time, the RCBS 358-200FN is looking best, but still lot of experimenting to do. I think you will need a gas check to get near your desired velocity. I have a thread (below) on the 336-35 that has drawn some good info for me.

It appears you are right about the 35 Rem. not being allowed at this time for deer. Some gun shop was selling a 35 Rem rifle that was approved for Indiana and my guess he was shortening the case to 1.8 inches.
