Normally I cast in the garage with the overhead door opened and a fan blowing across the table toward the open door, but I noticed in the thread about reloading tables that some showed casting equipment on a seperate table layed out like they cast indoors. Does anyone cast indoors and if so what safety measures do you take.

In the garage with the doors closed unless fluxing due to the smoke.

In the garage as well but I always have the doors open, not because I'm worried about fumes but weather here is mild. Like popper said, with smoke from fluxing I will fire up a fan.

On the back patio. Usually enough breeze to move smoke.

What popper said. If the weather is ok I will open the overhead door a few inches, but I don't want nosie neighbors checking up on me. Never in the house!

Out in the garage with doors and windows open... and the radio on.

in the garage, under the hood on my husband's blacksmith forge, so fumes go up the stack, which ties into the one from the wood stove.

In the garage. There's a window right next to where the casting equipment is, so I mounted a box fan there.

Garage, doors open, sun shining (preferably), and XM radio on!

I cast in the garage. Door is open if weather is decent, if cold then door stays closed.

The only "fumes" to worry about are from fluxing. The lead itself doesn't really produce any fumes.

I worry far more about the lead dust and bits that get tracked around the garage. They are far more hazardous than the "fumes" from the pot.

I melt down scrap in the garage but I cast in the basement with exhaust fans in a window right above the pot. I have cast indoors ever since I started.

I smelt outdoors, cast my bullets in the basement, I use a mask, small fan above the pot ,vented to the outside.

I do the same as nightal except I don't use a mask. My exhaust fan has a flexible dryer vent tube which I position just above my pot.

Open shed "lean-to" on side of my shop. Never shortage of ventilation, sometimes excess of it! We live on a hill out in country.

I smelt just outside of the woodworking shop--shady afternoons. But I cast bullets in the machine shop where my reloading equipment also resides. I built a steel frame bench with storage underneath, plywood top with aluminum skin on top and shelves behind just for casting. Supplies, molds and tools are in a home made roll cab to the left of bench. Open the door and blow air outside if I am fluxing.
Yesterday I cast some 00 buck and it was hot enough to need the air conditioner on. Tomorrow it may frost and set record May lows here in E Texas. Got to love Texas weather--if you don't like wait a little and it will change.

I melt my scrap and cast in the barn.

I usually have the walk-in door open, unless its colder than you know what.

If casting in the summer i open the large bay doors and have a blower cage setup out of a house furnace that i turn and point generally in my direction.

I usually cast at my casting bench in my workshop. It has a window and range exhaust fan for ventilation. I melt/smelt in an open bay on the side of my workshop. Sometimes on nice days I cast out there too.

In the garage with both doors open and a fan right next to me blowing the fumes out the side door.

I cast in my shop year round. All doors are closed as I have a kitchen range hood above my casting setup. This is only for the smoke from fluxing with sawdust. None of my pots get above the 3100 degrees F to vaporize the lead so I'm not to terribly concerned. 😎

Under an open carport. Plenty of ventilation but keeps the rain off should I need/want to cast when it's wet out.

Out on my covered patio.

I do both casting and smelting inside my shop. I built a custom vent hood with a 3 speed squirrel cage blower. It will handle the smallest of vapors to all the smoke and fumes that my smelter will put out. It allows me to cast year round.. rain or shine. :-)

I know a couple of guys that do. They set up in front of a window & use a fan. I just find it a bit messy for an indoor space, especially w/ fluxing & the occasional lead patter, best done in the garage or an out building.

I cast and smelt in my shop. If smelting, I'm on a sheet of plywood, closer to the door. Did it in the garage before I had a shop. Used the front porch before we had a garage. The shop has an exhaust fan, and I like it the best. Lightman
