Fluxing the melt

While casting what fluxing agent should one use?In the past I've always used a couple of lubed bullets and stired the pot until the melt is shinny again.Right or wrong?

Wrong.

Waxes and/or lubes are NOT flux. Wax & oil cannot flux, they will reduce the tin in your alloy but flux? NO.

This comes up at least once a week, read chapter 4 in the following link and you will understand what flux is, what you want it to do, how it does it and what wax & oil will not do.

The best is sawdust! stir it in as above and remove dross/crud then add more sawdust and leave it on top of the alloy to insulate the alloy from oxidation / seperation of tin and antomony from the lead , leave the burnt carbon layer in the pot until done casting.
your way will work ! but you have no insulating barrier.
