I have a Ruger Mini 14 with a 1in7 twist rate. Whats the best bullet grain for target shooting with a 1in7 twist? After I get some suggestions on a bullet weight I need to start looking for a mold. I know finding a 223 mold is gonna be a pain LoL!

Thanx - Jon

NOE has a 70gn RNGC that should work good.

Seems like to me some thing more near the 60ish grain range might work better but I don't know lol. That's why I thought I would ask someone with more experience than me.

NOE has a 22-055 that is a clone of the RCBS 22-055, for me they are dropping right around 62 grains with gas check and lube. They shoot well in my AR so far.

Trick is to get the heaviest design that will allow the GC to be seated to the bottom of the case neck and chamber easily w/o set back of the bullet. So a lot depends on the throat length of the rifle in question. The RN 60 gr designs are a fairly safe bet. Of course even with the GC seated properly the OAL must still allow loading in the mag.

Not trying to promote sales here but if you go to gunbroker and search for bullet man dan auctions. You will find a photo of each of those two NOE boolits. The 70gn is shown loaded in a 223 case with a boolit next to it so you can see where the gas check is inside. It is also shown with a caliper so you can see that it is within COAL.
A 1/7" twist will handle an 80gn jacketed bullet and an even heavier cast boolit.

Thanx for the input guys! Time to save up for a NOE mold. Maybe I will get lucky and catch one for sale on here.

you might wanna talk to bullshop about getting some samples of a few different boolit types to try.
a little money now could pay off in the long run.
