Somehow the existence of the 452432 had been hidden from me for years, then I couldn't find one anywhere and now a successful purchase yesterday and one is coming my way. I've got Schofield brass, regular Long Colt brass, and of course I'll be trying this boolit in my 1911's. It would be great if the 452432 enables me to shoot Keith boolits out of my 1911's.

Revolvers are my first love but I find myself carrying the 1911 mostly around town, and I live and work in town.

Good for you! I've an Older Lyman that I got off EBAY a while back that casts one 452-374 and one 452-423. So far, in very limited testing, it has not shined, but I think that is the fault of my gun not the boolit. I intend to try it in my 45 ACP's when I get around to it.

While it's a great bullet, the most important thing your 1911 must possess is reliability. Don't get so enmeshed in the Keith mystique that 1911 function is compromised.

It is well to remember that the 1911 was designed to work with a cartridge of reasonably long length and a rounded ogive. When seated to a length that allows chambering the 452423 has neither of those characteristics. The result is a more angled and steeper approach to the chamber as the round comes out of the magazine and a round that does not glance off the feed ramp the same as ball or many of the rounded ogive hollowpoint ammo does. This is not good.

While many get it to work, don't be upset if you cannot, and shoot many, many rounds without a jam before relying on it for carry use. Also remove a round after the gun has live fire fed it and check for the amount of setback, if any. Excessive setback implies excessive feedway difficulty and resultant loss of reliability.

Just because a round feeds does not mean the gun is feeding correctly.

Overall the rounded ogive 230 HP's, ball ammo and the HG 68 200 SWC's are more likely to feed reliably.

I've had great luck with it in my 1911s. I'm considering having one of my molds HPd

I'm so jealous. I want one of those molds for my 625

The mold arrived yesterday, still in the factory box and a vintage pamphlet to boot. This morning I cast a bunch, boolits drop .458" and weigh 244 gr with my mix of 4 parts Linotype and 6 parts wheelweights.

This bullet shines in .45AutoRim using a S&W 625 ! :)

I think it's time for another group buy on a custom.

If its for the ORIGINAL design (not a bastardized version) Lyman put out for decades, I'd jump in feet 1st for a 5 cavity. NOE would be my 'go to' choice for who gets the job.

Silver Jack Hammer, here's a link about the #452423 I read long, long ago by one of our own members. I think you'll enjoy the read.

Yeah I would be down for an original Keith design or the group buy version from a few years back. I think catshooter did the design or 45 2.1
Looks like they opted for slightly narrower lube groove with a touch wider driving bands.

Looked great to me. I think it would be a hell of a fun boolit in my 625 and if it chambers in my 1911 great!

Murphy, thanks for the story.

Right now I'm leaning toward thinking my 452423 is going to do the business. My mold does have the rounded grease grove that brought on the wrath of Keith. Still, I'm pleased to have it.

One of my Lyman 450's broke at the handle link. It's a month waiting for the replacement part. Lyman said they were out of handles but they are shipping my parts now. Fortunately I have another Lyman 450 with SPG so I'm not out on hold.

I ran a second 6-cavity Group Buy of the 454423 that was a rerun of the original CAT LEE Buy designed by 45 2.1.
This was a very popular group buy !
This is one of my very favorite bullet designs !

MP subsequently produced the brass Cramer HP versions of the very same 45 2.1 design. Even better ! :) :)

Awesome picture.

Does anyone have a pic of that boolit side by side with a 45 ohaus?
