Theses shots were fired from a 870 full rifled barrel @ 50yds bench rest, the round was a 2 3/4 cheddie multi hull, 26 grains of herco, 285gr round ball in a trap commander wad with 2 .125 28ga nitro cards under ball, not to shabby, I made no adjustments to the scope, just boered sighted and shot, I think I'm going to like this round, thanks Ajay for your input. Hello HatCreek, I'm happy for you, 3 ” Fiocchi. CCI 209M 28 gr Herco 293 gr Lee RB of .575 in Commander, +3-.125-28, 1 in wad
cavity at the bottom, 2 below the RB in wad 45 lbs wad pressure, 6 point fold crimp, at 1610 fps
Practice and you will be very happy with your home cooked RB slug costing 15 to 20 cents yet just as deadly!

Ajay this is the above load that you recommend, but the crimp keeps caving in, am I missing something? please advise thanks. HC

Hello HatCreek, don't worry about the caving in but next time add a .125 nitro card in the wads base cavity like this:
http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee75/Dantebeowulf/1476fpsloadpicturecopy_zpsd146edc0.jpg (http://s232.photobucket.com/user/Dantebeowulf/media/1476fpsloadpicturecopy_zpsd146edc0.jpg.html)
the way you see it on the picture on the right, if you already have one then put a .125-20 gauge nitro card on top of the powder first and then your main Commadore wad with RB and fold crimp!

My new loads have 3-.125-28 nitro cards below RB to raise the RB a bit more.

The pictures help a great deal.

Ajay, I have some Longshot powder coming and Speer 570 round ball. What kind of magic can you do with that for my 1100 20 ga? I'm not familiar with those wads so if you can be specific about the brand and where to get them I'd appreciate it. Oh, and I have AA hulls. I have changeable chokes too. Thanks for all of your great info!!! Hal Hogtamer Rowland

Hello HogTamer, LongShot works very well with .575" RB,
1. 20 gauge 3” Fiocchi, Fed. 209A 31.6 gr Longshot Lee .575” gr RB. in Trap Commander wad from BPI,
OP wad + .125-20 darker nitro +3-.125-28 nitro, 2 below RB in wad and one in the wad base cavity, 30 to 40 lbs wad pressure, V tight fit,
6 point fold crimp! Since Fiocchi hulls are known to be softer you will see very minute ext. mark, but if you switch over to Federal hulls then you will find no marks, at 1722 fps.
My best advise is start out low at 29, 29.5, 30, 30.5, 31 gr of LongShot, make one load of each and fire them at the range while watching for pressure sign's and see upto what point you can comfortably shoot and hit your targets.
As I keep raising the charge this is what happens
http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee75/Dantebeowulf/Targetcopy.jpg (http://s232.photobucket.com/user/Dantebeowulf/media/Targetcopy.jpg.html)
it keeps coming up like this, be sure to fold crimp.
http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee75/Dantebeowulf/Afterfiringwadcomparazoncopy.jpg (http://s232.photobucket.com/user/Dantebeowulf/media/Afterfiringwadcomparazoncopy.jpg.html)
When I talk of putting a .125-28 nitro card in base cavity of the wad, I mean like shown on the right.

With a RB load be sure to aim for solid bones as the RB will crush the heaviest bones like a bulldozer because

I forgot to tell you my gun is 2 3/4" only... and smooth bore. I think I have read all your posts over the last couple of years and it's amazing all the work you put in this to help others learn from your experience!

Good morning HogTamer, since your gun has a 2 3/4 in chamber then you will need a shorter wad like the one on extreme right
http://www.ballisticproducts.com/CSD-20ga-steel-wad-UNslit-250_bag/productinfo/0207020/
and under it is written 20ga. you need this one and you will need to cut it down with a pipe cutter like this:
http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee75/Dantebeowulf/Cuttingthewadcopy_zpscde0d740.jpg (http://s232.photobucket.com/user/Dantebeowulf/media/Cuttingthewadcopy_zpscde0d740.jpg.html)
to make life easy, your .575" RB will function like a non discarding sabot, you could help it by adding a drop of epoxy or Permatec etc to glue them a bit.
The Trap Commander will not fit as it will be far too tight.

We are all here to help once you start loading, so feel free to ask questions.
First try it with one .125-28 nitro card from Circle Fly at 1/3 the cost, instead of BPI where you will pay 2 1/2 times the price for nitro cards.
You could dust the wads with Mica or spray once your barrel with Moly spray.

All of you who have gone on my Face Book page and liked it I'm indeed greatful to you.
